Can you feel the excitement building? I hope he doesn't pass out from the weekend fasting.
And what I didn't know is that he graduated early. So he's just been kicking it and fasting since December.
who did he pick? is it us? is it us?!?!?
on pins and needles..
Damn, freaking Lane Kiffin. I am very curious to see how Tenn recruits in the future now.
ya whether or not they are recruiting the right way. kiffin has been very suspect so far.
"kicking it and fasting since December"
err I mean fasting.
damn... i love when when people pick us. It make me feel wanted
Neither of your links imply any sort of "baggage", other than being religious in a way that I don't particularly understand.
I should have made it more clear that the "baggage" was Brain Butler, who seems to be the type of guy who latches onto a kid and winds up breaking some NCAA rules along the way, plus remains meddlesome in the kid's life once he lands on campus. I have no problem with the kid's religious beliefs, and fasting shows a great deal of determination and, in a sense, maturity for such a young man. I worry, though, that he is being used as a pawn by Butler.
Forgive my cynicism, but I don't believe Brown's "it was revealed to me by God" quote for a second. Unless, of course, his "God" looks suspiciously like a green-on-white portrait of Ben Franklin.
Brown thought about playing in the CFL, and didn't. To me, that indicates that he got a better deal elsewhere. I would therefore deduce that whatever school got him is paying him more than the CFL could, and making him study the same amount of time, which is, of course, no time at all.
Either UT is incredibly dirty now, on a par with Alabama, U$C, and O$U, or Lane Kiffin's "loose cannon" techniques are incredibly proficient at pushing emotional buttons of seventeen year-old recruits.
I am leaning toward a combination of both, with more of the former than the latter.
Anybody got an over/under for UT probation?
Wow do you sure know how to sling the bullshit.
There's nothing like making allegations with absolutely zero evidence, eh?
I really don't think any Michigan fan can accuse another school of paying players. I mean, Fab Five and all.
I heard O$U and U$C pays each recruit $10,000 x [recruit's number of stars] up-front, and then some performance-based bonuses throughout his career. Not sure of the exact numbers on those.
And that's actually how OSU and USC officially became "O$U" and "U$C", in case you ever wondered. The only rule the NCAA has about paying players is that you must replace any S in your name with a dollar sign to indicate that you are a pay program.
Are you sure he is paying the players or maybe it might attest to the fact that Kiffin was a great recruiter at USC and has compiled a ridiculous coaching staff at UT who have proven over the years that they are excellent recruiters as well.
His girlfriend is probably out getting boned while he sits at home KNOWING she doesn't cheat on him.
And I'm the one doing the boning.
Did you see what Oku said about Brown the other week?
Bryce Brown, Sporting News' top football recruit for the class of 2009, will play for Tennessee this fall, he announced this afternoon at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. Brown is a 6-foot-0, 215-pound running back out of Wichita East (Wichita, Kan.).
Brown--who had been listed as a Miami (Fla.) commitment since Feb. 2008 but didn't sign with the Hurricanes on National Signing Day--had also visited the campuses of LSU, Clemson, Oregon, Kansas State and Missouri in the past year.
The running back was in Knoxville, Tenn. this past weekend to watch a spring scrimmage, checking out Tennessee's new offense under first-year coach Lane Kiffin.
Earlier this month, SN Top 100 prospect David Oku, also a running back, was a late Tennessee signee. He told Sporting News Today at the time that he wasn't afraid of the competition if Brown decided to come to Knoxville.
"And the whole Bryce Brown thing, I don’t care if he comes." Oku told SN Today. "I’m not scared of competition at all. The SEC is the best conference and where the best players are. I don’t care if he comes. I’m not scared of anyone?point blank and simple. I just know he disrespected some of the players with comments of his.
Brown seems like he may be a head case, along with Butler. I don't know what to think about UT and Kiffin. But first, I would be careful about throwing mud and allegations of payola toward UT. As was already said, we've had to deal with enough unfair allegations and accusations of RR.
Second, don't automatically diss fasting. While I am pretty dubious about God leading Brown to UT, there is a long history to fasting, in the traditions of Judaism, Christianity, Bhuddism, Islam, and Hinduism, let alone many other religions. If you're really interested, read up on it in wikipedia. Even if you're not, show some respect for others who are different from you. We can all make snide comments about others, especially when we're hiding behind the anonymity of an Internet blog. But such comments are classless and tasteless, smacking of Sparty and OSU. And boats & hos, if you're a psych analyst or counselor or doctor of some kind, iirc, you of all people should know better.
