Brennan Clay committed to Oklahoma today. This seems weird, but it happened. I'll try to talk to him this weekend to find out what made him pull the trigger.
Brennan Clay Commits to Oklahoma
as long as we can get him in for an official i don't think our chances have changed very much.
I feel the same way about engaged women.
a new classic...
Damn! Hopefully it's soft and he still takes an official to Michigan.
Well thats a punch in the nuts.
This sucks. Now we need to go after Austin White.
pretty sure we were going after white either way.
Yeah, but if we got Clay committed to us we would probably have stopped recruiting him. With Clay committing to OK, we have to go after him harder.
try talking him out of it tom
This is a joke right?
you're better than that
I guess my response was more "Tom might actually try to do that" than really thinking you were serious. Then again, my sarcasm detector has been a bit broken lately.
he talked about sticking with his decision once he made one. Granted, I am sure a lot of committs have said the same thing and then changed their mind. Clay seems pretty well spoken and put together so I tend to believe him.
However, maybe he will still want to take an official just to see Tate play in person. If so, then maybe Rich Rod can use a little snake oil.
My gut tells me he will stay a sooner, but you never know. I really wanted him to go blue.
Didn't see that coming. Oh well...NEEEEEEEEXT!
... is that I am a graduate student at OU.
Anyone want me to kick him in the nuts if he enrolls?
Even if he doesn't enroll there?
You are quite the prodigy, you don't look a day over 10
Clay just trying to get his foot in the door and keep his spot at Oklahoma. I would not stop recruiting him because this seems a little quick and out of the blue.
Looks like we just had a cancelation, Austin White, if you can stay out of trouble long enough to get to Ann Arbor, your table is ready!
As much as I would like to see him decommit sometime and come to AA I hated it when kids did that last year and so I suppose I must stick to my guns about disliking decommits. If he comes then great but my inner make up won't let me hope and pray for it. GO BLUE!!!!!!!!
Jesus we sound desperate. Keep recruiting the guy? Really? We should move on. We sound like some desperate stand-by easy lay. Yes, this is Michigan arrogance speaking - at its best. And well-earned. With all the desperate talk here I now feel like we have dropped a level, to Tulsa or Toledo. I am getting really worried about this class, and the future. I know it is only June, but I would trade this class for Penn State or ohio state's in a heartbeat, whether those players "fit" RR's scheme or not. PSU and OSU have a combined 3 3* recruits - we have 8 (according to scout). They have a combined 4 5* recruits - we have 0. Why is Penn State more of a draw for top recruits than Michigan, a more successful program? It is the drastic change here? The uncertainty? If so, something has to be proven to these recruits, and thus so much rides on this season. Which is fucking scary.
Hey Ultimate Quizmaster - thoughtful reply, good showing for your first comment. I really hope to see more of the same.
I admit I am having a bit of a freak out session, and thus make some irrational statements. But I love this football program. And I am, for the first time, worried. My statements might be irrational, but I believe not completely unwarranted.
sorry, didn't mean to be so harsh. I see where you're coming from because there are lots of reasons to be worried. Hopefully the results will be good.
Look at teams like LSU, Alabama, and there are several other top tier schools with classes similar to ours. I think it's also worth mentioning in a thread about Brennan Clay to OU that the sooners were not 3-9 last year.
Right now and until the class of 2008 graduates, we have to bank on the fact that Rodriguez knows what players he wants, whether they get the fans approval or not.
The ultimate remedy is to win games, thus attracting recruits and generally getting the heat off of rodriguez.
really? we sound desperate? and you're already worried about this class? ok.
right now it's one of the best in the country. it's unbelievable that you fail to realize we just went 3-9. outside of the michigan bubble, not many people think we will rebound from that. THAT plays a part in many recruits minds.
in june? Every other college in the nation keeps recruiting kids all the way up to NSD, so why shouldnt Michigan? Its not gonna hurt to keep in touch with him and keep selling Michigan to a kid in June.
As soon as I started to get my hopes up that maybe we had a chance...
Lesson Learned: Never get my hopes about anything ever again. Also, I just remembered advice I got from Homer Simpson. Never try at anything.
There, I feel better about this now! Now somebody go get Austin White (and tell him to leave the attitude in Livonia)
I'm not going to lose any sleep over Clay; didn't think he was coming here anyhow. I don't think White is either.
commit better, Clay.
In reading the thread over at the Scout free board, there are a couple of posters who are suggesting that Rich Rod & the coaching staff consider Austin White to be its top priority as for as running back recruits go.
I think White will end up in maize and blue. He seems to want to set himself apart from his brothers and father so I think he'd love a chance to play for big brother. I really hope we go after Nick Hill, I think he's a NW lean right now but UM hasn't shown a ton of interest. Hill is very impressive on the field, in the weight room and in the classroom.
would piss State fans off. I like when they get mad about recruiting. It's cute. Cue DocWorm
GBMW reported this a few days ago. Just sayin'
This totally surprised me as I at least expected he would wait until after his official visits. You would think he would want that free trip to the Big House to visit his boy Tate, but you never know what to expect out of 17-18 year old kids. Lets see if he decides to take the visit anyway if not oh well move on....
What makes you think he won't take any visits? Did he say he wasn't going to? I agree with your first sentence, but I don't think he won't make it to AA for an official.
wouldn't take the visits. I said I was surprised he would commit before taking any official visits.
UM can live without Clay. Wish him luck at Oklahomo.
Recruits are like girls. If you have to chase them all over the place, all you can be sure of is that they will abuse you.
Of course, abuse can be fun, but maybe not on a football team.
