Breakdown of the 2009 Offense by Position

Here is a really good article, that is in reality a pre-scrimmage breakdown, but it gives good insight into what to look for and expect out of the offensive unit.

http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=933440

One of the things that suprised me was that Huyge is getting serious consideration for RT. Weve heard so much about Omameh recently that i thought the position was his for certain. wut are the chances one gets bumped over to LT where the talent is more questionable? Is this a hard position change to adjust to?

Good to hear stonum is performing well. he was easily the biggest disappointment last season (unless u were expecting a lot from threet despite the fact that he couldnt beat out a walk on for the starting job). I think he has the potential to be our #1 reciever if he can develop. Id really like to see our outside recievers improve their blocking, and hopefully free up the bubble screens.

I think we will see a lot of different looks in the backfield. to me, minor is the most talented back but it seems like we never go a season without having our starting RB get injured. Game 1, I expect Minor to start and get most of the carries, with Shaw, brown, and smith getting the occasional change of pace carry.

the qb position is obviously tate's right now, but well see wut happens wen denard arrives. I think it is particularly interesting b/c tate and denard are completely different types of qb's and will bring something unique to the offense. I cant imagine that the competition at qb is on a completely even keel. I imagine RR must have some idea of how he wants his offense to run, based on the other personelle he has. if he wants to focus more on the passing game, then tate prob has the advantage. if having a running qb is his top priority, then advantage Denard. Obviously either one cannot win the job if they are absolutely inadequate, but i do think that ther will be a slight bias for one over the other.

I didn't think Stonum was a 'dissapointment'. Only people you can single out and call a dissapointment are the quarterbacks. They never threw good balls. Everytime they threw to Stonum it was bad throws, most of em.

Give me negative points

I don't think Stonum was "disappointing", I think he was "a freshman." And "easily the biggest disappointment"....would that be other than:

- Carson Butler being so lazy and terrible he was relegated to defense
- most of the offensive line, most of the time
- the abundance of WD-40 applied to the arms and hands of our kick/punt returners
- Threet getting a dose of overthrownium every time he dropped back to pass
- Sheridan minus the Minny game

Big is not necessarily bad for a receiver. However, he was interviewed in one of the mgoblue videos and they asked him if he was healthy and he mentioned that although he was finally back to being healthy again, he had put on some weight he needed to take off. I would expect him to be back down around 210 or 215 by the time fall football starts. Either that or he'll still be 226 and be a monster of a receiver.

Yeah, I think it was more that between the injury and the mono, he had gotten out of shape and put on some weight. But he was already a big receiver when he came as a freshman, Rivals had him at 205 when he was in high school, so he may very well play at 215 or 220. Which is pretty big, but he could clearly handle it last season.
