It might be happening, and soon. Chatter has picked up after the most recent last straw. Today I've gotten two reports that Brandon is resigning in… a couple hours(!). One comes second-hand from within the department, the other second-hand from the regents*. Premium sites seem to have the same chatter.

Prior to what seems like a major shift today but after the most recent last straw I had heard that the next bye week (ie, after Northwestern) was a point at which something might happen, with another independent report from within the department asserting that knives were being sharpened, and a report from one of the events being held in the run up to the regents' election that he was done in a couple weeks.

The the emails supposedly blunted a lot of pushback Brandon's supporters were trying to muster. While you should keep in mind that someone who would relate this to me might be inclined to believe such a thing, John Borton is… uh… not so inclined, and he asserted that white flags are being waved($) inside the department. Sorry if that sounds like self-tootin'. Nobody likes a self-tooter.

*[Note: I endorsed Mike Behm. I should clarify that none of this comes from him or his camp.]

There is nothing good that can come out of Hoke staying without his only suport, DB. This stuff about not firing a coach in season is wrong. Something needs to REALLY light a fire under this team and we need to see if Nuss is a legit coach or not. A

whether Nuss is a legit coach? Do we really want him to be the coach next season? I don't care if he's good or terrible. I want to aim a lot higer. If the team does better in the next few games there will be a lot of pressure to keep him, rather than to wait around for others to become available. Frankly, I think the team will perform better without Hoke, no matter who's put in charge, so we won't learn much anyway.

This is probably the worst way to try and "light a fire" under this team. It's been said repeatedly that the players are still in support of Hoke. Firing him now would not only not improve our team this season but it'd probably sour a good number of current players on the program in general. Let Hoke finish the year and look to next season with a new coach.

Hoke doesn't deserve to coach football at UofM for another game let alone the rest of the season. Also, the players might like him, but what college player would come out and say he doesn't like his coach or doesn't support his coach? I take the players "support" as players doing and saying what they are supposed to do and say. Finally, whether they like/love/support Hoke or not they can still get inspired to work harder by his firing.

MGoQuestion: Is at all possible they have hired a replacement? Or is this just a DB is "stepping down" and we are in the process of finding his replacement kind of thing?

My sense is that, if Brandon truly has offered his resignation to the President as reported, it was a 'you can't fire me because I quit' type of thing.

One way of looking at it is that Brandon, despite his flaws, is not the Grinch, and did not want a protracted fight that would futher damage his alma mater (and likely his own reputation).  He believes it was the best thing for Michigan, given the circumstances.

Everybody!

If this goes down as expected, President Schlissel is my new hero.  Not only has he never dealt with big time college athletics before, but this would be the correct decision based on the facts and feedback from multiple stakeholders in a relatively short amount of time.

to also fire Hoke at the same presser. But, then again, if it's about generating serious buzz for Michigan athletics, it makes sense to hold two separate but equal pressers. Dave Brandon "one ups" us again as he is leaving! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, SEEEEEEEE YAAAAAAAAAA!

So this has officially become a posbang thread now I assume. Thank god that fuckin douche bag is gone. Although I think allowing him to resign was too generous. They should have fired his ass, since I'm sure they still had to pay the majority of his buyout to get his resignation.
