Boubacar Cissoko Dismissed Comment Count

Brian

The writing was on the wall for this one, but some playing time against Penn State made it seem like Cissoko had come through his recent issues and would rejoin the team in good standing. Not the case, unfortunately:

Michigan sophomore cornerback Boubacar Cissoko has been kicked off the team.

Coach Rich Rodriguez, through a team official, confirmed Tuesday he dismissed Cissoko for a "violation of team rules."

That's obviously a severe blow to Michigan's already paper-thin secondary, both for this year and going forward.

UPDATE: Details from Wilcher:

Cissoko's high school coach, Thomas Wilcher of Detroit Cass Tech, said Cissoko was dismissed from the team for missing class, missing workouts and missing study table.

"That's what he was suspended for in the first place," Wilcher told The Detroit News. "He's upset. He's going to transfer as long as he can meet the requirements."

Wilcher said Cissoko had a difficult time handling the "social structure" at Michigan.

"He couldn't handle it," Wilcher said. "He's always been a quiet kid. (But) he needs to do what needs to be done as a student-athlete. Nobody is bigger than the program."

He was probably on zero-tolerance and missed something, or somethings, yesterday and or today. I really hope he does manage to transfer somewhere; if he doesn't and he leaves ineligible that's another double-blow to Michigan's APR.

This kid knew the drill coming in. He made zero contribution to his team. Now he pays the price. Wonder ten years from now if he'll regret that he blew the opportunity to get a degree from U of M.

Sad to see him go, because he has an awesome name, and it would've been nice to see a success story from Detroit these days (your turn, Will Campbell). As for the effect on depth that Cissoko's departure has, if they need some depth to muff punts, blow coverages, or miss tackles, I'd be happy to recommend that Boubacar's scholarship go to Terry Schiavo. Then again, she couldn't make it to study tables either. Too Soon?

Somebody is going to have to get on facebook and tell Dior that him and Booboo can't Fuck. Shit. Up. together anymore. I wonder how this will affect his recruitment?

"missing class, missing workouts, and missing study table" If his dismissal had ANYTHING to do with missing non-mandatory workouts, I smell NCAA sanctions. Big time. That better not be listed in the official reasons.

I know there's going to be a lot of BooBoo sarcastic boo hoo, but it's not like the backups are tearing it up, and you can't tell me he wouldn't have been valuable in his junior or at least his senior year. I kind of feel bad for him.

As someone who flunked out of school once, I also had to learn the hard way about what is necessary to be a successful student. Mr Cissoko has blown a great opportunity, but life is full of opportunities and if he learns from this I'm sure he can get back on track to becoming the man he wants to be. I did and I'll have my MBA (from a small school) in December. Somebody somewhere will give this kid a second chance and I can only hope he uses that opportunity more wisely.

Poor kid. He will always live on in my memory as the kid who introduced me to Young Jeezy's "Go Getta." It was on his little highlight reel from high school, and this fat, out-of-touch suburban soccer mom hadn't heard it before. It's now on regular rotation on my iPod and i think of him every time it comes on. Hope he lands on his feet.

So RichRod has dismissed a player who was a starter (early in the season) for missing classes and study table? I thought this was the guy who was going to bring down our program with Pacman Jones type personalities? And didnt we revere the way Carr demanded (does that mean "not voluntary") that Arrington ran steps every am to show his committment to the team? After beating up his girlfriend? So Carr's girl friend beater comes back, but RichRod is dismissing kids for missing classes? Time for the media to get off RichRod's back!

I think he very well could have become a quality DB. We have made a very quick judgement on his skills, he is only a Soph. DB is a tough position and I think he was being used incorrectly. When will we get a Def. Coordinator who is willing to play press coverage. I think he would have done well in press coverage and I still believe he would have turned it around at UM regardless. I think it is a decent loss to the team. Having said that, if he was given opportunities and continued to do whatever he wanted then the decision was the right one.

The article in the Daily today had some good quotes from former teammates. One said that since 10th grade BC has been all about Michigan, and he thinks Boubacar will try to stay at Michigan, get his grades up, and work his way back on to the team. Of course Wilcher was quoted as thinking that he'd transfer, so who knows. I'd love for him to stay and work his way back on to the team, personally.
