"if you think this discussion happens at other campuses across the nation..."
Actually, it does. I've been warned by ushers at other stadiums that I would be ejected if I didn't sit down (most recently in South Bend).
does that surprise you? and did you see me mention them in my list of relevant teams? they are just as stuffy and arrogant as the fans here.

which is that it's happened at MULTIPLE stadiums. You argued that the discussion doesn't happen elsewhere. Clearly it does, as I pointed out. But you probably aren't reasonable enough to process information that contradicts your salient world view.
yeah, i'm sorry about those other places you've seen that happen at, but it's your own fault for going to alma college football games. but hey, what do you expect from the most expesive university in the state? i'll tell you what you expect! arrogant, stuffy fans, the the ones found here. I'll tell you what, i've been to college football games in different venues too, never been told to sit down. when i went to the nutcracker this winter at the michigan theater it was a different story. man were the people behind me pissed i was standing the whole time, but thats becuase plays and college football are similar, like people on this board like to point out

I understood what you meant, but it's wrong. When I said multiple, that meant more than just Notre Dame and Michigan. It's happened at Toledo. I don't think they fit your profile of "as stuffy and arrogant as us."
Also, I think this disproves your last point.
Edit: while I was posting, you omitted your last point about Obama and Notre Dame.
disproves? i don't see how. i only changed it because i didn't see where you said MULTIPLE stadiums. i just figured i should say something about the MULTIPLE stadiums instead of just ND, but since you read that I stand by what I said in that post, they fit our mold perfectly. oh, and my roommate goes to toledo and he say's he seriously doubts it, unless you were wearing the opposing teams colors, in which case duh.

Um, yes I stand for entire concerts!
And when lots of other college teams fans stand for entire games, is it considered arrogance? No? Just in Ann Arbor?
"Ohio is like a giant turd that Michigan just can't pinch off"
the thing is, the anti standing group is forgetting what the word college means. the people who pay tens of thousands of dollars to go to school here are young (yes I go to eastern, but that doesn't mean i'm too stupid to count, i know how much it cost to go here) and the football team is young. this is a young persons game. you old timers had your fun in college, hopefully you cheered your team on as well as you possibly could. now that you are out of college and old, your rights to tell others how to act at a COLLEGE football game are gone.

How does Ohio State manage so much noise? I mean, there has to be lots of old timers that go to their games too? I know the stadium is shaped different, so it seems louder, but how? Is it possible that even old people cheer there?
The one and only thing I will give them, is that the old people cheer there too.
Aarrggh I better go wash my mouth with soap...
"Ohio is like a giant turd that Michigan just can't pinch off"
i went to a few games at the swamp when i was living in gainesville and i saw with my own 2 eyes old people standing up and cheering. and it was for longer than 2 seconds after a touchdown. looking back on it now and knowing what i know now about the old timers here, they must have been youngsters dressed up like old people. thats the only logivcal explanation.

No, the tax payers in the state of Michigan, parents of out-of-state students, and an the donors that built up a tremendous amount that is referred to as the endowment have paid the bulk of any student's education. The actual "students" end up paying a very small portion of the actual cost, even when factoring in the very generous terms of student loans. Get real.
...this is a young persons game. you old timers had your fun in college, hopefully you cheered your team on as well as you possibly could. now that you are out of college and old, your rights to tell others how to act at a COLLEGE football game are gone.
Um, wow. Problems with authority figures? Considerate much for anyone outside your small sphere of age, etc?
I hope/assume you are referring to transparent items outside of the usual tuition, room/board, books, etc.
authority? you don't have authority over me you stupid fuck. who the fuck are you to tell me what to do. just because you are old does NOT mean you are an authority figure, especially not my authority figure.

Aren't you telling HIM what to do? You're telling him he can't sit. Drop the arrogance bit, you clearly don't understand what it means.
As I said, if you weren't a completely ignorant person who uses words he doesn't understand, I'd have a harder time thinking you're a worse person than me. As it is, it's exceedingly easy.
i'm not telling him he can't sit, im telling him the fans that want to stand up are in fact helping the image of this team and the image of its fans across the nation and telling them to sit down when they have every right to stand up is arrogant. at no point did i ever tell him he better stand up or else, im just advocating the right for others to stand up without being harassed.

STOP IT! CAN'T YOU SEE YOUR CONSTANT FIGHTING IS TEARING US ALL APART???!!!!
"Ohio is like a giant turd that Michigan just can't pinch off"
it is only if you wear a shirt that says "I am bigblu" that I will sit down for u. this season, I plan to scream my ass off.
"Ohio is like a giant turd that Michigan just can't pinch off"
is there some kind of physical thing going on there?
young people like to stand up and scream during sporting events, not just U of M football games, even though one would have to assume that some of the older fans in this town think that we're the only young pricks in the country that cheer while standing up. Unfortunately not all young people are able to get tickets in the student section. it makes me wonder if some of these old timers ever stood up at any sporting events when they were younger. kinda makes me sad.

Which thread wins?
This one or the one White Pony started a few days ago? It's a tough call. They're both delicious.
discuss.
No question, Jim.
They're both great, but for entirely different reasons. The first thread will always be remembered for being "the one." It's hard to top that kind of blockbuster with a sequel. The seething rage and resentment was so palpable, and it was maintained all through the thread.
But here we have something completely different. It's something that's full of twists and turns. First we started with an issue that hits home with many of us - sit vs. stand. Then came Tater followed by Dex, which is always fun to see. But then we were in for a treat. Something that blew the door off the hinges. Tater responded. That right there is historic. Just as the first thread will be remembered for being "the one," this one will be remembered for being "the one where Tater responded." On top of that, we have this arrogance debate again. I find it bewildering, and I'm compelled to keep watching to see where it goes.
Either way, I give them each 5 stars. I will read both threads again.

Extraordinary plot twists, scathing dialogue, unprecedented response. This thread is a funhouse rollercoaster! I was surprised at the cameo from the guy who starred in "the One." And now I am even more surprised to find out that its NOT a cameo appearance. This guy is here to jack this thread up and drive it over a cliff!
I will have to wait to see how it ends before I decide if it is better than the original. Right now it is a dead heat.
is trying to tell people what to do! HOW ARROGANT OF HIM, AN EASTERN STUDENT, TO TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO DO!

Being a current student at UofM, I am consistently embarrassed by our fans and the way they act. Somehow, freshman year I was given a seat directly behind our bench in row 18/19 (I don't remember which row exactly because I didn't stay long). I was constantly shouted at by old farts behind me when I would even just stand the slightest bit in enthusiasm to cheer on our team on third downs and such. Also, I was told to be quite after cheering for a UofM recovered fumble. Thats about when I said the hell with it and just decided to go to the student section, give up my amazing seat.
However, I was still a bit shocked at the lack of hardcore fans in the student section. I know that I'll take shit for this reference, but when I went to the Penn State / Wisconsin game two years ago at Happy Valley, I was blown away by there fans. If a Wisconsin fan so much as walked by the student section they were given shit. And what was even more impressive was all the old alumni joining in and telling the Wisconsin fans to suck it. I have to say that it was pretty funny and impressive to see such ferocity out of all Penn State fans. What was even better was that it was one of those white out games, and I remember seeing Penn State fans giving other Penn State fans shit for not wearing white! Talk about dedication.
I am just tired of people claiming (and to some truth I might add) that even though we have the biggest stadium, it is not nearly the hardest atmosphere to play at for other teams. I want other teams and fans to to absolutely fear (not for their safety but just dignity and pride) coming and playing at the Big House.
I guess in conclusion... if you aren't going to stand, or at the very least cheer your head off and give the visiting team shit... then stay the fuck at home and watch TV. And don't ever give our own UofM fans shit for trying to make up for the fans embarrass the Big House.
If you want your elder fans to be completely callous and classes, I believ you are looking the school (term used loosley) about 45 minutes NE of Ann Arbor. I would be completely embarassed if an 80 year old in a michigan sweater told an opposing fan to "suck it" for walking near him. I belileve the problem with posters like yourself, my little pony and the like are that arrogance is being confused with class. You can be rspectful of others (actually opposite of arrogant) while still vehemently supporting your team. I just turned 30, and enjoy sittong at games (backaches, bad knees, etc.). In fact I even enjoyed sitting when I was a student. I love Michigan football, and enjoy the nuiances and minute details of the game and gameday experience, and can best experience this by being somewaht reserved.
Also, to an earlier poster, trying to compare the alumni in section 15 to the Cameron Crazies is a little disingenuous, no?
Aside from an 'e' in believe and missing the word 'for' somewhere in there, all of the words were english, and were structred in sentences. Now the prose may be a little rough (I'm and engineer, and not the articulate type like Brian), but the point is still there. If you want more LOLZ and OMG then have someone translate it to text message for you.
class is considered not standing up for too long or showing too much emotion or not giving the opposing fans any amount of shit around here huh? did you know that class is considered dressing up in cocktail dresses at ole miss games? i've been to one with my friend who went there before. i tell you, it looked pretty classy. but i guess it was false class because they stood and cheered and talked shit to the fans from the other team. and no i didnt sit in the student section

In response to UM2k1... no matter how hard we might try we could never possibly have less class than State. I'm not condoning (that’s right, I now am also going to employ a vast vocabulary to try and illustrate my superiority through large terminology, although dissimilar to you I am not a 30 year old attempting to out show a college student) that fans stand all game, I enjoy the occasional sit too. But when it is 3rd down and a big play, I going to stand and cheer my ass off for my Michigan without a second thought to the old grumpy man behind me. The game is MEANT for the students; and it should always remain that way.
Main Entry: ar·ro·gance
Pronunciation: \ˈer-ə-gən(t)s, ˈa-rə-\
Function: noun
Date: 14th century
Definition: an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions
Used in a sentence: White_pony_rocks is acting very arrogant in the thread entitled "Blue Haired UM Fans". His response to Bull Durham in which he writes that "you don't have authority over me you stupid fuck. who the fuck are you to tell me what to do. just because you are old does NOT mean you are an authority figure, especially not my authority figure" demonstrates an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner.
so i'm arrogant because I don't take orders from old people? Telling me he is my authority figure demonstrates an attitude of superiority. how old are you? i'm 25, if im older than you im your authority figure so you need to listen to me and do what i say
Soon to be the #1 fitness and training center in AA
Why don't you give it a rest dude.
No question, Jim.
to you.
I asked, due to your seeming resentment towards older people, if you had a problem with authority figures (to avoid misinterpretation, these would be teachers, professors, professionals and businessmen, supervisors, etc.; not everyone older would be an "authority figure").
i'm 25, if im older than you im your authority figure so you need to listen to me and do what i say
Wow. To you, the term "authority figure" just boils down to "listen to me and do what i say"?
He sounds like the type of person that will never take hold in a career because they will never respect their supervisors and immdiately expect to be promoted over people who have much more experience and wisdom (in fact kind of like the definition of arrogant). They always bellyache about how someone has it in for them, and the world is against them. I have a relative like this...he is forty, with a business degree, on his fourth wife and is currctly employed as a laborer because he wouldn't take a job in any "business" related fields due to lack of pay, and not being hired as a manager without any experience.
at no point were teachers, supervisor, and professors ever brought up in this thread, by you or anybody else. don't try changing the meaning of your comment, you talk about my consideration for people outside my age sphere like they are authority figures because they are older
Soon to be the #1 fitness and training center in AA
mentioned teachers, etc., as examples of "authority figures."
And no, I stand behind what I wrote, my above comment did not change its meaning in any way, it was just meant for clarification.
but my writing is better.
Is it when someone with a massive chip on their shoulder about the intellectual superiority that he thinks Michigan students unjustifiably feel over him demonstrates, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that he doesn't have a clue what the word "arrogance" means?
so no one agrees with the fact that when alumni use college football tickets as status symbols to show how important they think they are and yell at people who show any kind of emotion that arrogance isn't involved? it's arrogant to think you're better than anybody just because you have sporting event tickets and it arrogant to think you're important enough to tell people how to behave in someplace they paid money to be at.

sorry, this is not meant for UMxWOLVERINES, it is meant for Blue Durham
i was at the capital one bowl when we played UF. you could deff tell where the pockets of M fans were because they were sitting down the whole game. my girlfriend is from florida, graduated from UF. This old woman with M gear on yelled at her for cheering to loud. she wasn't even standing up, just yelling about a refs call i believe. this arrogant M fan had the audacity to tell my girlfriend to be quiet during a college football game where the college she went to was playing in her home town. yeah, there's no arrogance in that, is there? My girlfriend said she has never seen so many people sitting down at a college football game before, but that's because she went to a college that isn't relevant right now, i mean florida hasn't won a nat'l championship in quite a while have they? and they play in a real shitty conference that is known for being weak and losing big games across the nation. so buddy, shut up about college football, because our fans are laughed at across the nation because of people like you. if you think this discussion happens at other campuses across the nation like USC, Texas Tech, LSU, and UF, it doesn't, but then again those teams suck, so it must mean that being quiet and well mannered is actually a boost since we've been tearing it up the last couple of years.
