Michigan is up seven thanks in large part to the ACC, above Penn State and the recipient of one very strange voter's first-place vote. For the first time, Michigan is the highest-variance team in the poll. More on that in the full writeup.

knowing our fanbase,

knowing our fanbase, whichever blogger brought the wrath of the CK award upon us would punished with a never-ending stream of angry comments, D/DOS attacks, and a very quick drop in readership.

i would say michigan bloggers are shit scared of drinking the koolaid.

Technically, the look up says

Technically, the look up says that Michigan received 2 votes. Purple Wimple (the voter) is a TCU blog that uses a resume formula for how they rank teams. Not only is Michigan 2-0, but it also has 2 wins against BCS-AQC teams.

As for LSU, I can't figure out what the system is he uses over at BlatantHomerism (Oklahoma blog). I think he just took LSU as a more likely better team in a power poll? People from Oklahoma are stupid. As a Texan, I can attest to that.

Little Brother Conspiracy

I'm convinced that Michigan's first place vote came from a MSU blogger in an attempt to jinx the Wolverines.  It seems like something Sparty would think was a good idea without realizing it could horribly backfire.

Let's not be idiots here...

If you click two or three times, you'll find that the first place vote came from A TCU blog.  It's really not that hard.

Love them to death...

I am a big Purple Wimple fan now! haha I mean, we obviously aren't the best team in the country but it's great when pollsters stick to their guns. I like his performance only factors in deciding his poll.

Is it me or does everyone (outside of Michigan and UConn fans) all of a sudden think UConn sucks? Weren't they Big East contenders up until kickoff versus us? I think that win is going to look great at the end of the season, IMO, and I'm glad the Wimple recognizes it.

Blatant Homerism

Blatant Homerism's ballot is all sorts of wacky.  They claim to have a resume-voting-ish system, but I can't figure it out.  Some variation of "take all the teams that haven't lost yet and throw them at the wall".

You would think homerism....

But who voted Michigan #1?

In any case, the two bloggers who voted LSU and Michigan #1 in their respective polls should be immediately removed of their right to vote.

Edit:  Ignore the first half of my comment.  Didn't read your comment clearly enough to realize that "blatanthomersim" is an actual blog.  Second half of comment still stands (even though formerlyanonamous explains how Michgan ended up with that vote.)

Yeah...

...I should've likely put "Blatant Homerism" in quotes.  My bad.

The more I look at BH's poll, the funnier it looks.  But resume voting always looks wacky in the first few weeks to me -- at best, it's moving the emphasis from the team that won to the team that lost ("Obviously Team X is good because they were good last year" becomes "Obviously Team X is good because they beat Team Y (who was good last year).")  At worst, you've got the strict margin-of-victory winners, who Brian laughs at in this week's Mr. Bold section.

First Place Votes

I'm not advocating more first place votes for Michigan, but it looks like there were two this week.  Brian reports that Purple Wimple voted Michigan number 1, and it appears that Doc Sat did as well:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Blog-pollin-...

My guess would be that Doc Sat didn't get his ballot submitted on time.  And yes, he's one of the crazy resume voters.

EDIT:  Just noticed that FormerlyAnonymous has already pointed this out.  Still, I wonder why there's a discrepancy w/ the published poll.

My guess is that some of the ballots are coming in late

DocSat not showing up in Mr. Bold is an obvious sign that his didn't get in before the stats were done. I think someone else (a Penn State blogger, in fact) would have won the CK but didn't get the ballot in on time.

Future Shock

SSDD, a lot of folks are still voting in these polls based upon where they predict (hocus, pocus!) the teams will end up at the end of the season rather than their current records.

Predictions

So what happens to Michigan in the next two weeks, both in the Blog Poll and the 'real' polls like the AP and Coaches' polls?

I can see us dropping based on opponent strength in the Blog Poll. This is fine with me, as I don't really see us deserving a top-15 ranking until we prove ourselves in some Big Ten action. Based on performance versus opponents, I guess we're in about the right spot, although 20-25 seems realistic.

What happens in the AP/Coaches? Do we just keep moving up (assuming the wins...shame on me) over the next two weeks as random teams drop? Essentially, my question is: where do you see us in the BlogPoll, AP, and Coaches' Polls to start the Big Ten season?

Matt Hinton (Dr. Saturday)

Are voters in the blogpoll supposed to do what Matt Hinton does and base rankings solely on observed performance, or is that just like his opinion, man? This website's description is a little hazy...
