Last week's ballot

Dropped Out: Nebraska (#19), Kansas (#23), Missouri (#24).

Just a couple minor changes from the draft:

I rearranged Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Houston a bit. I didn't really like moving Houston up (what with the loss to freakin' UTEP and all), but they definitely have a couple better wins than the Hokies or Nittany Lions do at this time.

I also moved Georgia Tech up a little bit, and I'm realizing that it's time to rethink the resume chart a bit, since I still have Oklahoma as a very impressive win for Miami (Yes That Miami), much more than a 3-3 outfit deserves.

At the urgings of commenters (and against my better judgment, I think), I included Michigan as the #25 team in the poll. It's put up or shut up time for the Wolverines, as Penn State provides a chance to cement position in the polls, or drop out of them for good.

For next week, Arizona, Pitt, and Central Michigan will all be considered for the top-25, and I'll try to update the resume chart in terms of quality wins.

Hey Tim, look at it this way: When M wins on Saturday, you will be a prophet. Otherwise, no one will remember.

EDIT: PS, you ruined my fun. When I first started looking at the poll, I was thinking about a post titled "What, No M in the Top 25?"

If you think about what has changed since M was last ranked, we lost twice on the road and obliterated a non-opponent. I don't necessarily disagree with M at 25 but it seems like a projected rank more than a current deserved one.

On the other hand, the pulse that MSU has shown as well as Iowa's continued success make our road losses look marginally "better" so I guess I don't know what I am saying. Beat Penn State!?!

The arguments on the thread for the original ballot were for taking Wisconsin and Cal out of the ballot because when you looked at the resume Michigan was more deserving. Some one else pointed out that we had a better resume than Notre Dame and should be ranked ahead of them.

It could easily be argued that M should be ahead of ND. ND's losses are to M and USC (top 10 nationally ranked team) and M's losses are to MSU (albeit unranked I think some higher standards should be accepted for major rivalry games) and Iowa (unbeaten top 10 nationally ranked team).
Both team's losses were very close but I'd hold Michigan's 2 point loss to an undefeated team higher than a 7 point loss to a one loss team. Then although MSU had a horrible record at the time records are almost meaningless in big time rivalry games. Coaches can always find a way to rally their kids to play at a much higher level in a rivalry game then in another normal game.

That said I would have maybe M 24 and ND 25 as I really don't believe either should be ranked. Nor will I ever believe that USC should be in the top ten.

While an argument can be made for Michigan at 25, I dread tempting fate and possibly focusing the CK award's wrath on Michigan going in to the PSU game. How terrible would it be if the home blog of the Blogpoll operator incurred the wrath of the great and powerful CK?

I'm sorry but I can't take any poll seriously that has vTech ranked above GTech after watching the game. GTech beat VTech on Saturday, has better record, and has really come on the last few weeks. Unless of course impressive losses are part of the resume.
