Blogpoll Draft Ballot Week 12

Rank Team Delta
1 Texas Tech --
2 Alabama --
3 Florida 1
4 Texas 1
5 Southern Cal 1
6 Penn State 1
7 Oklahoma 2
8 Missouri 1
9 Georgia 3
10 Ohio State --
11 Utah --
12 Oklahoma State 4
13 Michigan State 2
14 Boise State 2
15 Maryland 11

19 Oregon State 1
20 Boston College 6
21 Pittsburgh 7
22 Florida State 1
23 LSU 3
24 Northwestern 2
25 Ball State 4

Dropped Out: North Carolina (#13), Wake Forest (#20), TCU (#22), California (#25).

Well… here it is. Anything  below #14 is completely bats, and I welcome any attempts to sort it out. I just don't know, dude.

As for other motion:
  • Yeah, Florida springs past Texas. Neither has anything approximating a nonconference test yet but Florida is has had fewer cupcakes on the schedule to date and has generally throttled the opposition more thoroughly, Ole Miss game aside.
  • Oklahoma slips a bit. Moot after the TT game anyway.
  • Georgia up significantly and Oklahoma State down significantly… are completely unjustified right now.
  • The ACC and your six 7-3 teams: go to hell, please.

Any help is welcome.

Yes, I think that Georgia moving up three spots after a masterful 17-13 win over a Gawd-awful Auburn team definitely fits the definition of "unjustified."

Ohio State throttled Illinois pretty thoroughly last Saturday (they gave up a garbage-time TD with less than a minute left) and destroyed Northwestern and Michigan State in the last month as well.

I'm not sure what Georgia has done to justify their spot above OSU other than the fact that they play in the OMGSEC!!!11!!

You moved 2 ACC teams, Virginia Tech and FSU, up 1 after losing to teams with identical records that are also above them in the league standings (Miami and Boston College), neither of whom are ranked.

Part of me wants to criticize you but the overwhelming feeling is just to throw my hands in the air and declare that ACC teams are unrankable until the season ends.

Given your record at picking ACC teams, Brian, please put Miami on there and take Virginia Tech off. We'll find out Thursday night if Miami makes the ACCCG.

Incidentally, no ACC team has been eliminated from bowl eligibility yet -- it's theoretically possible to have every ACC school with a .500 record or better. Granted, that's not going to happen (Duke plays VT at home Saturday), but it shows you how bizarre the conference is. And don't forget that 10 teams are still in contention for a spot in the ACCCG.

The SEC is way down this year. Not quite ACC bad but Big Ten bad for sure. Florida is the best team in that conference and they are going to throttle Bama in the championship game.

Oregon St is going to go to the Rose Bowl. They should at least be above Oregon.

I'm pretty confident at this point that Ball State would roll anyone in the ACC. In fact, I'd take Ball State, Central Michigan and Western Michigan and let you pick the three "best" teams in the ACC to face them on a neutral field and I'd bet on the MAC winning two out of three.

briandtw, not only would I take your bet, I'd bet on an ACC sweep. The ACC gets a bad rap. They've beaten a lot of decent - not great, but decent - teams in out-of-conference matchups.

The gap between Ball State and Boise State is kind of inexplicable to me. Boise has played Oregon, I guess, but the MAC is not so bad this year (4 wins vs. big ten) and the WAC is awful (Hawaii returns to earth, Fresno was overrated, etc.) Also, the Oregon team Boise beat struggled to handle Purdue. Is that win really much better than Ball States over Indiana?

Utah at least beat TCU, other than that they haven't played anyone either.

What is the rational for deciding one is a top fifteen team, one is a mid-level team, and one is barely rankable?

Utah also beat Pac 10-leading Oregon State.

And yes, beating Oregon is more impressive than beating the worst team in the Big Ten this year. Oregon's game with Purdue was close but only because Oregon played like a bunch of 'tards in that game, they're better than that. The MAC is better this year than it's getting credit for, but Ball State didn't play anyone OOC at all, and for a midmajor to get credibility they have to play someone. Unless you score 55 points a game and are from a tropical paradise, in which case you get to go get your ass kicked by Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
