SB Nation BlogPoll College Football Top 25 Rankings »
Things got a little weird this week.
Oregon State? They've got three games in the books, all wins against BCS competition: Wisconsin, UCLA, and Arizona. Arizona and UCLA have wins against Nebraska and Arizona. Wisconsin kind of sucks I guess but still is favored to make the B10 championship game. As we move almost entirely towards resume voting, theirs stands out.
West Virginia? I may have gotten overly excited by TOUCHDOWN LAWSUITNEERS. I definitely did. I should think of their secondary. I am apology for doing this. They're eighth in the poll at large FWIW.
Texas so low? Combination of lingering preseason skepticism plus the fact that they maybe probably could have should have lost to Okie State but got bailed out by a non-fumble call.
GUH POLL GUH GUH GUH. Speaking of the poll at large, you know where USC is? 14. Stanford? 18. You know what happened when they played like two weeks ago? Yeah. Stanford won, you guys.
Hate Oklahoma. They have nothing on their resume at this point except a closer-than-it-looks win over UTEP and a loss to K-State. I am still hanging on to some expectation-based voting, and that's the only reason on they're still in there.
LA Tech. Two road wins over Illinois and Virginia plus a couple other shootout wins over Houston and Rice, which aren't good. Could ascend to legit BCS buster status in two weeks against A&M.
MIAMI? 3-0 in the ACC and almost locked into the championship game already.
Wins over New Mexico and Iowa St are not exactly big acomplishments
Hey now, no need to get upset if you're not in the club. Don't worry, we'll beat OKU and Texas for you, like usual.
AWWWWWW SHUCKY DUCKY
"...we'll beat OKU and Texas...like usual"
Ummm... Texas Tech is 15-45 all time against Texas and 6-13 against OU. Ouch.
I live down here and I'm very familiar with the Hurricanes. Obviously most of the country doesn't have the time or energy to watch every college football game but believe me when I tell you that no team is less deserving of a top 25 ranking.
That is all.
where they will have more yards on offense than fans in the stadium. I'm not sure they didn't achieve that this past Saturday actually
If Oregon State is #4 after beating 3 average/slightly above average teams, why isn't Notre Dame #1? I guess its how you view the competition, but I would say wins over Purdue, MSU, and UM > wins over Arizona, Wisconsin and UCLA. Just my $.02.
Arizona and UCLA have wins against Nebraska and Arizona.
(I'm guessing that's supposed to be Okie State...but then, if that's a good win it mixes strangely with the Texas distrust...which I don't blame)
"I love him, he's a great coach, he's a great mentor, he's a great friend. He's every single thing you want a college coach to be, and he does it flawlessly." -David Molk
While you're at it, the 2007 Michigan team finished 9-4, beating Tim Tebow's Florida, as you might all remember. Florida Finished 9-4 as well. How the heck did they stay ranked better than us?
Touchdown Michigan!
This kind of logic doesn't really work with rankings.
For one, not all records are created equal. If Michigan finishes 8-4 this season and EMU finishes 9-3, we still should be ranked higher.
Secondly, head-to-head doesn't work like that. In a dream world, the better team would always win, so teams would completely reveal how good they are vis-a-vis one another in a given game. That doesn't happen. There's error built in (injuries, down days, weather, officiating, lucky bounces, etc.). Beyond that, what do you do about the case where Team A beats Team B, which beats Team C, which beats Team A?
Whether you think that rankings should be about how well teams have performed on the field (as I do) or how good they actually are, it's a mistake to get too wrapped up in records or head-to-head results.
UW Huskies have no business being below (er higher?)than #20, Stanford pulled a choke artist in that game and should have won. Oregon is going to murder, death, kill them this Saturday.
Also, I am a believer of Oregon State just not that much of a believer. People are too hyped on the Pac 12, a lot of overrated teams.
Go Blue!
Oregon State and Notre Dame appear to have gotten mixed up on Brian's ballot.
GUH POLL GUH GUH GUH. Speaking of the poll at large, you know where USC is? 14. Stanford? 18. You know what happened when they played like two weeks ago? Yeah. Stanford won, you guys.
15. Stanford
17. Washington

this poll is skewed!
Love & Hate are horns on the same goat.

Seeing Texas Tech over USC makes me happy in special ways.
