Why the bump for BYU? Obviously, they benefitted from a ghastly call that probably kept their game from going to OT with the same Washington team that got trucked by Oregon the previous week. Frankly, I keep BYU in the Hawaii 2007 category at least until we see what they do against UCLA.
Blogpoll Ballot Week 2 (Draft)
Okay: I’m moving more towards the resume style as we continue to get more information about the teams. East Carolina is way high, maybe, but they put the spurs to West Virginia in a fashion that was no fluke. Maybe Bill Stewart’s just that bad, but probably not.
I think, on consideration, that I might have been too enthusiastic about moving Penn State up given the results of the Oregon State-Stanford and Stanford-Arizona State games, yes? I’ll probably at least swap PSU and ASU given that Arizona gave an equal horsewhipping to the clearly better team in the opener.
Auburn’s game against Southern Miss was not as close as it appeared, so they stay, but Florida’s game against Miami was closer so they drop.
I think my sudden enthusiasm for Oregon is also a bit unjustified; I’ll probably drop them, and I may put Kansas back in instead of GT.
Watched: Michigan-Miami(Not That Miami), Notre Dame-San Diego State, portions of West Virginia-ECU, Penn State-Oregon State, Texas-UTEP, BYU-Washington, Wake-Ole Miss, Miami-Florida.
I thought Brian had BYU overrated last week also. I don't understand what they've shown. They had a terrible second half against a terrible opponent in week 1. Then they barely beat one of the worst teams in the Pac-10. I guess I'm fine with them being in the top 25 after this week, but much lower.
Sure, it took them 3 quarters to get it going on Saturday, but I say Florida is a more talented, more dangerous team than ECU. I feel like ECU is the new VaTech: great defense, run the ball, actually care about special teams. I like that about them, and have been impressed by them the last two weeks -- but I still think Florida would beat them.
WolverBean: Brian said he's sort of resume ranking. Resume ranking doesn't leave room for "I think Florida would beat ECU" - if ECU has had better victories, they're ranked higher.
ECU probably has the two best wins in the nation, although the jury is still out on WVU. WVU is at least decent, but they were absolutely crushed. If WVU ends up not sucking due to bad coaching, then that will remain a quality win. Impressive wins nonetheless.
