Blake Countess Done For Year
A source close to the team has told me Blake Countess has torn ligaments in his knee and is done for the year.
Countess will get a medical redshirt and be a redshirt sophomore next year; in his stead, Michigan has some hard choices. Courtney Avery was not up to the task on the outside against Alabama. Raymon Taylor and Terry Richardson also got in there, though in the part of the game in which Alabama was just running out the clock. This might mean we see a lot more of Jarrod Wilson in the nickel package. Last night he came in and Michigan moved Thomas Gordon down to the nickelback spot.
Also, hurray!

Time is working funny again. Greg Mattison has a phonebooth time machine he sent the secondary back to Charles Woodson's childhood in; they have emerged with ZZ Top beards, children, and skills.-BC

He must be using the force.

Aimlessly in the background if that gif. How boosters are activated for a trip to nowhere good with Countess out for the year. He isn't the most key player on the team to lose, but he is close to the top 5 don't want to lose.

On the fifth night—possibly the sixth—a breeze arose.
It was cool and dewy.
Get well soon Blake. At least you get a redshirt. Hopefully, the expectations for the position can be filled by someone else in the meantime.
Go Blue!
*sigh* Somebody update the "Never Forget" banner. :(

Not a function of us playing Alabama...could've happened against the Little Sisters of the Poor

Yeah because the speed at which you get hit and the size of the guy hitting you has no effect on how your body absorbs the hit?
Not that I loved Rich Rod less, but that I loved Michigan more.
This is the guy who hit him in the back.

6'1"; 180 lbs.
There are high schools who have bigger kids playing the same position on the punt return team.
I put up a tough front, but deep down I just want to be held.

The fact that the injury came on a block in the back that wasn't called is just the shit cherry on top of this shit sundae.
Now with 100% less South Bend, 100% more Washington DC.
I dont recall the block to the back on that play... but the next punt there was a clip not called..... but was it really necessary to have our best corner, gunning on the punt team ?
So when we have freshmen and redshirt freshmen out there on special teams and they blow contain and don't take on a block with the correct shoulder or don't stay in their lanes and squeeze who will we blame? Do we give up redshirts so that we don't have to put starters on special teams? Its football, players can get hurt on any play...one of the best safety's ever to play in the NFL blew a knee up because he got juked by Barry Sanders (IIRC). THis is why depth is important.
I came to say the same thing. What really pissed me off was when they called a block in the back on a really similar play against us.

Fucking A! This is terrible...Damn I feel bad for him. Get back soon young man.
If I say a duck can pull a truck, shut up and hook the sucka up!
That's a huge bummer. Get well soon, Blake. Any update on Taylor?
i only respect other superfans
Still not sure why arguably our best pure corner is playing on punt coverage...but it seems like this year we will more than incur the amount of injuries we missed a year ago.
Brady Hoke will say something akin to "You want your best 11 players on the field", but I agree -- my first thought was "Why is he a gunner?"
"It would be a travesty, it would be ridiculous to all of a sudden come back and get the feeling back, get the health back, feel good again and then all of a sudden go throw some other colors on my shirt and go coach."
If you want your best 11 out there, why not have Denard return kicks?
Lots of starters play on special teams. This is not rare.
But we're really not that light. CB is not a think position for us.
It just blows my mind how many people on this blog feel the need to blame someone for everything that happens. It's fuck Al Borges because of our gameplan (as if that's why we lost) and fuck Brady Hoke for playing a starter on special teams. BC is a starter at a position that almost never subs, so playing him on special teams means he plays, what, 70 plays instead of 65? Does that really make him that much more likely to get hurt?
Guys get hurt in football. We don't have to blame a coach every time it happens.
Nobody is piling on the coach unfairly. It was a dumb decision. The same dumb decision that got Woolfolk hurt last year in the opener (and he was never really the same the rest of the year). There is little/no reward (How much of a difference does Countess make even if he's the greatest gunner of all time and all the other guys on the roster suck, which is certainly not the case?) and the risk of injury running at guys full speed from that distance is significant.
Not forcing the other team to stop Denard Robinson until the 2nd half when the game is all but decided is also a questionable decision. If any other team's coach did it, you would think it was a dumb decision too.
It is spelled HOKEAMANIA. Our coach is an ass-kicking American citizen, not one of the Beatles, for Christ's sake!
There isn't much that I question in regards the decisions Hoke has made since becoming coach here. The only thing I have ever had issue with is his insistance on playing key players on special teams.
I think when you look at things like risk/reward, there really is no reason to have one of your best players at a position covering kicks and punts. Sure there are other positions that could afford to have a starter go down and not lose much (perhaps your linebackers) but corner isn't one pf them.
I see someone above talking about depth at the position. Depth is one thing, proven depth is another. We don't have that at CB.
Anyway, again I don't question much about what Hoke does, but this is one decision I have always found strange.
There's no way you can tell me that you agreed with gorgeous Borges' gameplan last night. That is patently absurd. I love Denard, but he is not, and will never be, an accurate pocket/west coast QB. And that is what Borges asked him to be for the majority of the game. Of course, the caveat of ALA defense applies in full. But Borges made their job easier. I don't think he used our talent effectively. He didn't put the players in the best position to be successful, which is what coaching is all about.
But I really opened this thread to ask: Are we allowed to panic yet? This Blake injury is going to hurt
this year. Hoping for a full recovery.
Denied by UM multiple times, nonetheless lifelong M fan.
Of the bitchin about Al's gameplan!!! You wanna run Denard 20 times against Bama when we NEVER established the line of scrimmage and they had 8 in the box? For cripples sake we'd have to hear you complain about Denard getting hur tif that happened. So many know it alls around here.
Denard Robinson......They're not going to catch him!
Yes.
Because maybe Denard makes a play that no one else on our roster could have with Fitz being out.
He's our best offensive weapon.
I agree that we probably were never going to win, but I'm sick of people acting as if the coaches did everything in their power to give us the best opportunity to win.
If you don't believe we should have ran Denard 20+ times yesterday, then I guess you also believe we never should have played the game.
The same thing also happened last year when Woolfolk (who at the time was probably our top guy at the position) got hurt on kickoff coverage. I can't see how any of these guys could possibly be so fantastic at kick coverage that it justifies putting them out there to run full speed into a wall of guys and then run around hoping to collide with a ball carrier who has a full running start while keeping an eye out for stray guys looking to take your head off, some times from behind, as was the case here.
Hopefully Raymon Taylor can be Blake Countess 2.0, but this is a policy that is clearly failing.
