At least Air Force runs a triple option...
Blake Countess Done For Year
A source close to the team has told me Blake Countess has torn ligaments in his knee and is done for the year.
Countess will get a medical redshirt and be a redshirt sophomore next year; in his stead, Michigan has some hard choices. Courtney Avery was not up to the task on the outside against Alabama. Raymon Taylor and Terry Richardson also got in there, though in the part of the game in which Alabama was just running out the clock. This might mean we see a lot more of Jarrod Wilson in the nickel package. Last night he came in and Michigan moved Thomas Gordon down to the nickelback spot.
Damn Mayan calendar. Who knew they were referring to Michigan football.
Y U NO SLEEP AMHG Y???
I hope it is only 1 ligament torn and is something he can recover from. Doesn't sound good.
not a lot of corners out there that come off of major knee injuries to be a star.
I'm done with it.
So much for "forget never forget." Why write that? Its like an Iowa blogger saying "Hey, at least our runnig backs are healthy?"
Get better Blake. If anyone has any insider access, please let him know that there are over 100,000 people pulling for him.
Damnit, this just sucks balls.
Obviously losing arguably our best at the position sucks in a big way, but all reports were that Michigan should be able to weather this. If Lewan is really ok then Michigan dodged the bigger of two bullets IMO at least.
A least Countess should be 100% recovered for the start of next season. I wish him the best in his recovery.
Time for Avery and T.Rich to push each other. Avery slipped once and looked bad doing it, but we have seen plenty of solid play from him in the past.
God it will be nice when any single injury isn't cause for hysteria.
Nobody would be saying "why is he playing on the punt coverage team" if Countess had forced a muff or made a bone-crushing tackle or whatnot. It's bad luck -- not a bad decision -- that he was injured, and it shows why blocking in the back is against the rules, whether it gets called or not -- it's dangerous. I hope he'll keep his head on straight, take the year to continue to improve his technique, rehabilitate, and come back next season better than ever.
This game should have never been scheduled and he would have never been there at this point in time anyway???
We would have been playing someone on Sept. 1. This wasn't an extra game on the schedule.
You know that right? This play could've happened against anyone. I think I read the guy who hit Countess was 6'1" 190
Well please don't let your low moral affect your morale.
Judas Priest, man. Relax.
well...that sucks...hopefully Taylor and Richardson can mature quickly..much like Countess did last year? (as my voice gets higher pitched)
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!! :(
All the best wishes to Blake Countess for a total and complete recovery! Team 136 welcomes him aboard for a potential NC run, and team 133 bids him the fondest of fairwells. For now someone else will step up and do their damnest to live up to the expectations of a Michigan corner. We're can only hope they'll have a breakout year similar to BC's run last season. Againt, all the best! Team 133 will make you proud and Team 134 will welcome you back the field!
I'm consoled by the good hearsay on Lewan's status as "go" for Air Force. I certainly hope he's 100% and not risking exasperating any lingering injuries to play. We need the as many All American types as we can get for team 133's jouney to Pasadena.
Actual pickle from Ace's burger.
EDIT: Now I look like a douche. When I replied your comment was blank.
I once had a pickle on a burger that looked like Bruce Jenner. And no, I don't need the joke font on this because I'm not joking.
Prayers go out to Blake for a speedy recovery.
Even though I am the enemy, I do have heart. (Sometimes.)
Courtney Avery will step up.
commencing panic mode
My favorite player on the team other than Denard. Just an awful weekend. Prayers and best of wishes for a speedy recovery for Blake.
Prayers for a speedy recovery. Such a tradgedy. I don't blame anyone (coach or player) for leaving it all out on the field. Sometimes these things happen. You will be destroying them next year when you are even bigger, stronger, and faster.
Sad. Sad. Sad.
Very sad. He'll probably never be the same.
How can you say that? We don't even know which ligament is injured.
Speechless. I've fought urges to throw this laptop, rip the collar off my shirt, and throw the remote through the television. I hope he is able to play again, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. I'm not an expert by any means, but what are the chances of someone gaining back their burst, explosiveness, lateral movements, and speed after such intense surgery?
MSU is going to throttle us. 7-5.
are an idiot.
You think losing 7-5 is a throttling?
Therapy in times like these.
If Brian does TWIS, it's just gonna be a bunch of comments made on the MGoBoard....
yep, thats about it.
I'm curious, how often do players make full recoveries from knee injuries like this? It often seems like they come back having lost a step or injury prone, hopefully it just observation bias on my part, heh.
Avery slipped and got embarrassed, but you know what? So did Dee Milliner. It happens. Avery is better than he showed on Saturday night. It definitely hurts to lose Countess, but I'm not worried that Avery will make a habit of getting burned like that.
Avery looked lost out there as a CB. Not much difference from start of last year. He's much more servicable as the nickelback. Hopefully one of the true freshmen can step and and contribute, like Blake did last year.
When did he look lost? When he slipped and fell? Then Milliner looked lost, too.
agreed. getting tired of morons writing off players after ONE BAD PLAY. Hey JT Floyd gave up a long TD to Indiana in 09, obviously he'll never be any good.
Denard threw a pick six Saturday night. Let's bench him.
Lewan had three bad penalties Saturday night. Let's bench him.
Demens had trouble getting to Yeldon unblocked. Let's bench him.
McCarron barely completed over 50% of his passes. Our pass defense was largely fine. Musberger liked talking about how badly Avery was getting picked on, but it was a single play.
Avery has established himself as a solid player. We'll be ok.
