A source close to the team has told me Blake Countess has torn ligaments in his knee and is done for the year.

Countess will get a medical redshirt and be a redshirt sophomore next year; in his stead, Michigan has some hard choices. Courtney Avery was not up to the task on the outside against Alabama. Raymon Taylor and Terry Richardson also got in there, though in the part of the game in which Alabama was just running out the clock. This might mean we see a lot more of Jarrod Wilson in the nickel package. Last night he came in and Michigan moved Thomas Gordon down to the nickelback spot.

Also, hurray!

We have Curt Mallory we will be fine. Gibson minus all the points.

Blake, tough break but get well soon. You will be back better than ever I do not doubt it.

I knew it wasn't good when they were checking him out on the table doing the stability test.

Again...Starting Corner as a Gunner? Put your 2nd string in...Come On Man!

So much for "forget never forget."  Why write that?  Its like an Iowa blogger saying "Hey, at least our runnig backs are healthy?"

Get better Blake.  If anyone has any insider access, please let him know that there are over 100,000 people pulling for him.

Damnit, this just sucks balls.

Obviously losing arguably our best at the position sucks in a big way, but all reports were that Michigan should be able to weather this.  If Lewan is really ok then Michigan dodged the bigger of two bullets IMO at least.

A least Countess should be 100% recovered for the start of next season.  I wish him the best in his recovery.

Time for Avery and T.Rich to push each other.  Avery slipped once and looked bad doing it, but we have seen plenty of solid play from him in the past.

God it will be nice when any single injury isn't cause for hysteria.

Nobody would be saying "why is he playing on the punt coverage team" if Countess had forced a muff or made a bone-crushing tackle or whatnot.  It's bad luck -- not a bad decision -- that he was injured, and it shows why blocking in the back is against the rules, whether it gets called or not -- it's dangerous.  I hope he'll keep his head on straight, take the year to continue to improve his technique, rehabilitate, and come back next season better than ever.

on a day where my moral is already low. Now I'm in the negatives. Not good. Not good at all. Hope he has a good recovery and can go for next year. We need to kill Air Force this Saturday. 2012 is already looking like it's on the verge of collapsing...

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!  :(

All the best wishes to Blake Countess for a total and complete recovery!  Team 136 welcomes him aboard for a potential NC run, and team 133 bids him the fondest of fairwells.  For now someone else will step up and do their damnest to live up to the expectations of a Michigan corner.  We're can only hope they'll have a breakout year similar to BC's run last season.  Againt, all the best!  Team 133 will make you proud and Team 134 will welcome you back the field!

I'm consoled by the good hearsay on Lewan's status as "go" for Air Force.  I certainly hope he's 100% and not risking exasperating any lingering injuries to play.  We need the as many All American types as we can get for team 133's jouney to Pasadena.

Prayers for a speedy recovery.  Such a tradgedy.  I don't blame anyone (coach or player) for leaving it all out on the field.  Sometimes these things happen.  You will be destroying them next year when you are even bigger, stronger, and faster.

Post a video of the play he was injured on. It was on a punt, right? I remember briefly seeing a Bama player push Countess away from the punt returner, and ABC never showed the play again. Brent and Herby were too busy getting lathered up about the wonders of SECism.

Speechless.  I've fought urges to throw this laptop, rip the collar off my shirt, and throw the remote through the television.  I hope he is able to play again, but I'm not keeping my hopes up.  I'm not an expert by any means, but what are the chances of someone gaining back their burst, explosiveness, lateral movements, and speed after such intense surgery?
