so much for that
Big Will
Even players that had great college careers, like a Mark Messner, never had solid success in the NFL. My guess is that we rarely have had any big, highly athletic DLs, like a Warren Sapp or Bruce Smith. We still appearantly have trouble recruiting these types of players. It seems like a lot of these athletic DLs are from the south...maybe they don't want to travel too far from mom's cooking.
I don't quite understand your point.
You say, "My guess is that we rarely have had any big, highly athletic DLs, like a Warren Sapp or Bruce Smith."
Those are just two random choices, and Warren Sapp really wasn't all that big. I don't know...it's just kind of like saying, "We haven't produced that many good safeties. I guess that's because Ed Reed and Ronnie Lott didn't go here."
If Ed Reed goes here, does the 2000 team win the championship? Discuss.
With Warren Sapp, I was mainly thinking of athletism. That's really my point, we haven't had many athletic and dynamic DLs. I think that's part of the reason we haven't had many in the NFL. I think that's significant, because we have had good pros at most other position groups.
Needs a chance to develop and focus on fundamentals that will allow him to reach elite status... He will likely play some this year, but any expectations for major contributions should be reserved for his soph year.
