so I'm guessing it's a nod to the "Purdue does not exist" meme.
There is no time, sir, at which ties do not matter.
More like Purdon't exist. AMIRITE?
I can only continue to reference the fact that I live in an onion factory.
...other CFB blog memes now? Seems a bit crass and derivative.

Can't we just make them honorary members of the Coastal?
Nobody wants to go to West Lafayette and they're essentially already ineligible for the championship game.
on how to cope with being 7-1 division champs without the ability to play for championships.

How are we going to accomodate our SEC schedule if we have to play these crappy B10 teams every year?
Frankly, I don't see it.

Good idea, but little brother always sits at the kids table.
Is this how we get the conference back down to manageable numbers? Eliminate Iowa, Purdue and Minnesota?
Why not? They can form a joint team - a co-op - and play at Purdue so no one has to travel far.
License to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill gophers at will.
life is like a box of chocolates... and you got the Whizzo Quality Assortment
Does this mean the conference would go to 9 games so we could determine the undisputed champion between Rutgers and Maryland?
Would stink to watch the 8 part saga and not determine a victor.
Here's hoping for a bright future. This team does try hard and I will continue to support them.
Does anyone else feel like there are just too many FBS teams now adays?
I think cutting down from 120-124 to ~50 would help a lot. D1 football is really the only kind people pay attention to so we would be abel to sustain 5-6 conferences at 8-10 teams each while still dividing up the tv market shenanigins.
Then disalowing d1-d2 games and you will increase your product all around because all of the worth while football teams will play eachother more often. Go from having potentially 3 interesting games per year like we have today to having every game being against a quality opponent.
Lost in all this is the fact that the number of "red"-based schools has increased from 33% to over 40%, and I for one think that's an absolute travesty.

This makes the B1G Championship game a formality, and opens the door for promotion/relegation.

Now that we have acquired Rutgers and Maryland, can we bundle them together to another conference for a better team?
…This post seemed brilliant when I first started writing it, but I can't think of a single team worth the equivalent of Rutgers and Maryland that I would want in the conference.
The Team. The Team. The Team.
Keep Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State on one side. Keep Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin together on the other side. Then if we can pair Penn State with Maryland and Rutgers. By numbers, they go in nebraskas side. We get Illinois and northwestern, plus indiana and purdue. 9 game schedule. Sound fair?

This means M and Ohio will play 8 times during the regular season, and if they are both 4-4, the B1GCG will be between M and Ohio by default. Otherwise, the winner of The Series will go on to waste whoever comes out of the other division.
Think of how full the stadiums would be! MONEY.
What the hell is this "East" and "West" stuff anyways? How are we as fans suppose to know where our teams should be located with that nonsense.
For example - the Red Wings are in Michigan, which is well east of west, therefore they are in the West. Got it? I will admit that Michigan, being Champions of the West, adds a bit of confusion, but there you are.

You forgot PU in our conference. That's what I thought the divisions should have been since we got Nebraksa.
Rutgers isn't even a basketball school... what the fuck
I dont think I've ever seen Brian meltdown quite this bad before. If the front page were the board, the Mods would have revoked his posting rights by now. Yeesh.
it must be hard realizing that the thing you've devoted your career to (college football) is seemingly intent on destroying itself.
People need to stop being so dramatic. The Big10 did something very stupid, sure, but the entirety of college football is not in any danger of "destroying itself." College football, including Michigan football, isn't going anywhere.

While your 4 division idea was made in jest I do think a 4 divisions would be best if we ultimately become a 16 team conference.
For the sake of arguement lets assume the Big Ten jumps to 9 games in conference and that we add two teams. Lets sat UVA and VT (which exact two does not necessarily matter).
The divisions could be geographically based, like:
Northwest Division: Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin
West-Central: Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana, and Purdue
East-Central: Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio, and Penn State
East: Rutgers, Maryland, Virginia, and Virginia Tech
The divisions could be tweaked to even out- or to adjust if two added teams are better in a different region geographically....
Lets say you are in Division A- you could play all of Divison B and 1/2 of C. The next year you'd play the other 1/2 of C and all of D. That way you would have a 4 year cycle to play every team home and away.
I like that idea better than two groups of 8 playing the other group of 8 once a decade or so.
What does everyone else think of divisions of 4 if we go to 16?

did we kick them out of the conference?
