Via Bruce Feldman:

"Hearing" is not quite reporting, but if Feldman says something you can just about take it to the bank. And Rudock is not quite in the boat, but every sign available points to his desire to transfer to Michigan.

Rudock would be a massively important pickup just because he changes the floor on the Michigan quarterbacking situation from "weeping in a pile" to "decent Big Ten starter." If Rudock's been significantly hampered by the Greg Davis effect he could be better. Last year Rudock completed 61% of his passes for a decent 7.1 YPA with 16 TDs and 5 INTs, something that sounds like heaven. He's also a decent runner with a couple hundred yards last year even without sacks removed.

He put up pretty decent numbers playing in a bad system with a group of receivers who did not fit said system at all.

I'm excited to see what he can do if he does come.

Please Brian, I know you wouldn't expose us to any April tomfoolery today. Can I get a promise that you will eat 1 lemon if this is a joke?

Has there been reports that UM is interested? Most of the reports state that UM is #1 choice but I haven't seen any indications from the UM side. Although, that's probably a NCAA no-no.

This also helps us out in the event of injury.  It was always possible that one of the QBs on our roster became a serviceable-or-better starter, but two was pushing it.  Now if one of the 3 currently on campus is solid, we know we'll have at least 2 in that category.

The only way this isn't a huge help is if 2 of our current QBs ends up better than Rudock this fall.  Good problems, and so on.

Anyone who transfers before this season wasn't going to offer much depth. Rudock doesnt have anything locked up. If you transfer before a starter is even named, it means you weren't even close.

Why is it everyone who says they may transfer is coming to Michigan? Rudock hasn't been offered a position by Harbaugh but now he's the front runner to start. Notre Dame's center hasn't mentioned Michigan but everyone says he's coming. Balas reported the UCLA receiver yesterday but again, the kid didn't mention Michigan or he is even transferring for sure. This is ridiculous.

No one has said Notre Dame's center is coming.

Why do people think Rudock is coming to Michigan? He visited here and nowhere else. We asked the Big Ten for a waiver so he can play here. Every national media site has been reporting that he wants to transfer here for the last few weeks. It's either that or your theory that we think every possible transfer candidate is coming to Michigan.

This is great news. Rudock has been in the wars. He is more of a "sure thing" as far as I'm concerned then Morris, Speight, or Malzone. Maybe Morris and Rudock compete. But this gives the depth so that Malzone can redshirt . . . unless he really, really shows he is ready. Maybe Speight will surprise me. Regardless, I want to see competition, and I want to see the best QB win, and I want to see some depth.

As much as we all hate OSU, you have to acknowledge that their QB depth saved their bacon this last year. How much would Michigan benefit from having three QB's on the roster like Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett, and Cardale Jones? I expect that until we have a clear, experienced, skilled, talented QB starter, we're going to see a lot of guys coming in to give it a shot. Not all of them can make it, but I'm sure all of them want the opportunity to run a team as QB under Harbaugh. May the best man win.

Ohio State seems to have more of a plug-and-play QB system, though.  That's not to say it's ineffective (holy shit is it effective) but I think "QB depth" means something different there.  Urban Meyer's system needs a QB to be athletic, but the reads are very simple so I don't think experience is as important.  That's how you get the third-string QB making his first start in the postseason and the offense still scores 100 points between Wiscy and Alabama.

In terms of "depth" as Michigan fans envision it, OSU last season wasn't that much better off than Michigan.  Barrett was a RS freshman last season.  Jones was a RS sophomore.  After Miller it was underclassmen all the way down, and they won the NC.  Michigan's pro-style approach takes several years to develop game-ready QBs (if at all) so we don't expect underclassmen to hit the ground running like that.

But how do all these guys (lyons, okorn, rudock, any other potential players) fit with our scholarship situation? I don't recall having a ton of open spots but again, I'm not fluent in it.

I think that getting Rudock for this season is a good thing. Even if he doesn't earn the starting job he adds excellent depth in case the eventual starter is injured.

Question fo the coaches here. Assuming no one leaves we'll have six scholarship QBs this fall. Now Rudock only has one season of eligibility so he'll be off the roster for 2016.  So does Harbaugh take two more QBs in 2016? Does it make sense to have seven scholarships devoted to QBs?
