Big House Night Game

Why not? Places like Tiger Stadium are incredible at night. If you're going to spend 226 million on stadium renovations, wouldn't it be worthwhile to get some lights and host the occasional night game? Granted, it can be cold late in the season, but what about week two against Notre Dame?

Thoughts? Someone play devil's advocate and tell me why a night game against Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan State, or Ohio State would not be incredible.

Only way to get night game is if we got lights in parking lot etc. Other stadiums have lights in parking lot and lights all over outsite stadum, michigan does not.

Ok.......

Then BUY SOME DAMN LIGHTS!!!! $226,000,000 is a lot of friggin' money. I'm pretty sure the university with the largest alumni base can drum up a little cash.

What the hell are you talking about?

Basketball has night games, and they share a parking lot with the football stadium

The football team has about

The football team has about 100,000 more people at the games (incase you didn't know). Go ahead and put lights on the golf course bud. Tell every house owner to put street lights in there front yard too while your at it. Its a legal issue.

Explain

It's illegal to park your car at night? I understand the parking situation at the Big House is a problem, I'm just not sure why it totally removes the possibility of a night game. As people have noted, some games finish late when it's dark.

I'm just looking for a better reason than "just because" and nobody has really given one, besides you. I'm curious about the legality problem you refer to.

Sorry, but, I don't spend 14 hours a day straight, responding on the same threads. I say what I say on each threat, I come back and there will be 30 new threads to look at. Sorry I don't have the time to go back and prove myself.

You sure don't have any important things to say everytime I see your name pop up? Hypocrite?

Its a saftey hazard. In

Its a saftey hazard. In previous videos they stated that. Theres A LOT of elderly at Michigan games, lot more than other teams who have night games(probably a concern too).

Don't ask me to find the video because I'll have the same luck that you will. I'm not saying I'm against them, I would love to have night games. I am just stating what I heard on why we don't have them.

Dude. No.

Many sporting events are held at night, all over the country. There is no law requiring some amount of lights in parking lots before such an event can be held. This is one of the dumbest things you have said on here, and that's saying something.

You must not be from around

You must not be from around here or gone to a game little guy. Michigans parking lot doesnt hold every fan. You got residential area, golf course. Michigan doesn't want 110,000 people on streets after dark because lack of lights, drunk people might I add.

Palace of Auburn Hills= Parking lot fits everyone.
Ford Field, Joe louis= Downtown

I know what i'm talking about, you must be some type of kid who always gets picked on because your trying to pick a fight on the INTERNET.

Yes, but basketball games have about 15% (note: complete guess here) of the attendance of a football game.

someone has said on here before that it's fat cat alums in chicago that shut down that idea. they want to be able to drive home after the game. dunno if that's true but it kinda makes sense.... for them. i find them to be insufferable pussies then, but that's just me. maybe they could build a fancy dorm for them to stay in, with quiche for brunch and bidets in the bathroom.

If you are in favor of night games....

...then I hope to never see dmccoy talking about how he loves the traditions of Michigan football, because I consider Saturday night games / weeknight games / non-traditional scheduling to be nothing more than a sop to the networks or to conferences and teams who need publicity. If the nation wants to watch Michigan football in Ann Arbor, they can do it at midday, or late afternoon on Saturdays.

Saturday night football in Baton Rouge is a tradition, just like SaturDAY football in Ann Arbor. The only reason it gets changed is when CBS tells them to.

Don't worry - if Michigan and Illinois are good, they'll play a Saturday night game on Halloween in Champaign. That'll be your fix.

Tradition?

I'm not talking about billboards dude. I'm talking about an occasional night game. Ever been to a night game in Happy Valley? I have. I was able to get a ticket in 2005 when they played the Buckeyes.

Besides, tradition starts somewhere, like the #1 jersey. Having one night game a year isn't going to ruin tradition.

Nope..

Too many southern recruits. As a transplanted Floridian of ten years, I think it is uncomfortably cold up there to play night football after about the middle of October.

It isn't much, but why give the opponentes even a molecule of advantage when it is your home game?

For example, does anyone remember that 6-3 or whatever the score was Purdue game? What if it had been played at night?

The only possible advantage I can see of this is that maybe some of the season ticket-holders who are too old and frail to cheer and make noise would either stay home, get rid of their tickets, or die faster.

Of all the priorities for

Of all the priorities for Michigan football, this is on the bottom of the list. Let's start fielding a decent football team before we start talking about night games and better non-conference schedules.

1 home night game

1 home night game per year. It'd be great national exposure for recruiting and the upgraded Big House.

C'mon...

Nice post lol

No, we have great national exposure. But i'm glad to see you think there's no difference between a 12pm start...ex: Michigan vs. Purdue game November 1st, verses the Big 12 having a run of highly watched night games (granted good matchups) when it comes to recruiting. How could you not see how a prime time game would help us recruit better? Recruits west of A2 aren't even up in time for our 12pm games Saturday?

"make sure sarcasm meter's on"...nice one d-bag

Plus

With a night game, the anticipation builds during the day. I've noticed that, with the exception of OSU, the atmosphere for 3:30 games almost always trumps the atmosphere at 12:00 games. Just an observation.

And, as another poster mentioned, the MSU comeback and 2005 last second victory over Penn State ended in the dark, and it was incredible with the lights on the field.

I would be willing to bet that the "quietest 100,000 people in the country" would be significantly louder at night.

I wish for this every year. And I never stop hoping.

This has been talked about to

This has been talked about to death. Obviously a majority of the Michigan fan base would like to see it happen, but the Athletic Department has taken a stand against it (people getting too drunk during the day, fans getting home too late, etc.). And the comment about lights in the parking lots comes from Bruce Madej (IIRC), so it's not bullshit.
I would love to see it though, and it doesn't sound like it's not in the future (rumor has it the new coaching staff wants them). Hopefully it'll come the year we play [insert SEC/Big 12 team here] in an early season non-conference game.
