Bid Muppets Comment Count

Brian

That locks up an NCAA bid no one saw coming, and possibly the title for most over-achieving Michigan team in a long, long time (seriously, does anyone know what the last Michigan team like this was?). Muppets:

Because you can't have one without the other.

I think they were in either way but it would have been harrowing on Selection Sunday; now they've probably played themselves out of Dayton. I have no idea how. Does anyone know how that happened?

seeing that he had no shots after his miss at the 7:43 mark.

I'm beginning to believe that Bruce Weber can do less with more than just about any other coach in the Big Ten (although in a year or so, Tom Crean may be eligible for that title).

But hey, sucks to be them!

I wonder if Karma realizes that its message for OSU wasn't delivered successfully today? (It was close, though. Good job by the 'Cats to make a game out of it at the end.)

Another reason I love Michigan football.  Cheerleaders!

Great win today, but please, why do I have to go through bouts of depression and near cardiac arrest with each game?  The future is definitely looking up...the present doesn't look so bad either.

Incredible finish.  I'm shocked this team pulled this off, but thrilled!

1998 hockey was something like this.  After all those guys graduated in '97, I would have been happy to make the tournament and they won the whole thing.  But this is better.  I looked at the schedule at the beginning of the season and thought 12 wins was the ceiling.  Hurray to being way wrong.

i predicted 5 BIG wins and was keeping my fingers crossed for a NIT bid.  Wow, what an unbelievable surprise.  these 3* frosh and sophs are playing like 4-5* jrs and srs.  incredible that they don't fold down the stretch of games, like the illini seniors did today.

that a significant portion of your demographic not only doesn't know that "You can't have one without the other," but wonder why you are putting Muppets on the Blog (not knowing what Temptation and War Chant are all about!  I am a lot older than you are, but this upsets me greatly.  I feel like I did when my dad used to complain and wonder why the band no longer played The St. Louis Blues to celebrate big things happening.  Please educate these folks.  They include real fans whose only failing is their age.

Over achieving? I would say hockey last year overachieved, given their expectations going into March. Maybe it was an underachieving team regressing to the mean after a bad season, but still. Did anyone expect them to actually win the CCHA?

Being in NYC I don't get to watch the team much, but I raced home to watch this one.  The sheer joy is causing me to post!

Last team like this?  Gotta go first year of the Fab FIve.  Obviously they were way more talented, but they overachieved far beyond what anyone expected of them.

DOUBLE MUPPETS!?!?!?  WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

A:  We're going dancing.  A team that overcame a horrid Big Ten start and no one gave a chance just rewrote the definitions of grit and moxie.  That's what double muppets means.

Outstanding

The Sporting News Preseason Mag that sits on my coffee table picked them last in the Big 10.

Now, they are, without dispute, a top-4 team in the Big 10. And, State Champs. And, back where this program belongs, in the NCAA Tournament.

No, there hasnt been a more overachieving UM Hoops team than this. But, it's also a pretty good team. They'll be dangerous tomorrow. And next weekend.

GO BLUE!

I have to admit, I thought ti was over partway thru the 2nd half. I'll chalk that up to not being used to seeing a Michigan Baseketball team overachieve this much...

now that we are in do we root for our bubble brothers - PSU and MSU - in the hopes of upping our RPI and getting a better seed, or are we still competing with them for those better seeds?  (Not likely PSU so much, but MSU?)

I don't think it will really matter.  Probably the only way that the seed will improve is by winning more games.

So, I'll root for PSU to beat Wisconsin AND Purdue, so that Michigan can beat them a 3rd time for the Big Ten title.

A MSU win would improve two wins and drop one loss a touch ... but would mean rooting for Michigan State, when the opportunity to enrage the fanbase in East Lansing and perhaps trick them into doing something massively stupid may prevent itself. (I would hope the AD wouldn't think about firing Izzo if Purdue crushes MSU again, but then dumber things have happened.)

Penn State has a long way to go to get in and wouldn't likely affect Michigan's seed, so it's probably safe to root for them. (Plus you don't really want to root for Vince McMahon, do you?)
