Basketball Catches A Scheduling Break Comment Count

Brian

The Columbus Dispatch got ahold of the "one-plays"—conference opponents you don't play home-and-home—in the Big Ten this year, and Michigan got off easy:

Illinois at Michigan
Michigan at Purdue

IE: Michigan does not play in Champaign this year and Purdue does not play in Ann Arbor. With both teams looking like strong candidates for Sweet 16 seeds… eh… I'll take it. I wonder if Michigan knew about this when they decided to chuck Kansas onto the schedule?

UPDATE: The answer to the above question is "yes" according to a former student manager; the program knows well in advance who will rotate on and off the schedule.

With non-conference cupcakes on our schedule (too many I think) and not playing Illinois and Purdue our Strength of Schedule might drop all the way down to..... ... 20. We still have a very tough schedule and Beilein will have our boys ready. I've hear many say that our S.O.S will be much lower than it was last year and I call complete idiocracy. Take a gander at that schedule one time and you might change your mind. at Kansas, at Utah, the Old Spice Classic with the likes of Marquette, Xavier, Baylor, Alabama and Florida State, UConn at home and BC at home. Not to mention a killer big ten schedule.

I'm a little dissapointed Purdue isn't coming to Crisler, since I'm pretty sure I hate Purdue basketball more than Ohio State and Notre Dame football combined at this point and was really looking forward to seeing them get destroyed again. Always good to miss out on that Illinois trip though.

Wow, this is awesome. Two of the most loseable games drop off the schedule, while we get double-doses of Iowa, Indiana, PSU and Northwestern. We should definitely improve in the standings.

Our strength of schedule is going to be very high this year. Our schedule is absolutely stacked this year, I think it will work to our advantage though. That sort of schedule really gets a team ready for the tournament.
