Between the videos and still photos from the first practice on freep, rivals and mgoblue.com, both Hemingway and Big Will look to have trimmed down. Anyone heard how many lbs. each may have lost during summer conditioning?
no, YOU'RE off topic
I thought the same thing when I saw the pic of Big Will. He looks like he has done great in Barwis' system. I thought I remember reading he lost 20 lbs. or so during the summer, but I can't remember exactly.
Campbell went from 330 to 318.
Hemingway went from 226 to 220.
6 pounds heavier than Savoy, and just over 10 lbs heavier than the next two (Gordon & Matthews)
At only 6'1'', he is a real big dude.
as the season goes on. Imagine Hemingway and Koger or Webb lining up on one side of the field, and here comes Minor, Shaw or V. Smith on a rushing play. You've got a 6'1", 220 pound Hemingway laying a block on a CB.
You'll see how this becomes a problem for, say, Western Michigan, when I take this information from their depth chart:
Dixson, Keith 6-1 185
Dorcely, Andy 6-0 194
Lawrence, Deshon 6-0 175
Lewis, David 5-10 170
Perisee, Mike 5-7 170
Price, Josh 6-0 195
Smith, Damond 5-11 173
Toler, Lewis 5-10 167
Vereen, Jermaine 5-10 182
Dorcely, Lewis and Perisee are upperclassmen. Therefore I'm guessing they would be first ones on the field (of course, maybe not, but...) and you can see that Hemingway will have at least a 25-pound advantage on anyone he's lined up against. If Hemingway can engage the defender in a block, they shouldn't be able to get away, which will allow the RBs to get to the corner and use Hemingway to gain serious yards.
Hemingway is getting Barwisized while A Moveable Feast is getting bowdlerized.
but a Big Two Hearted +1 for what looks to be a fine Hemingway (yes that Hemingway) reference.
I'm really not very good at the internet. The link was meant to be: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/20/opinion/20hotchner.html
Sorry for the broken link.
Bowdlerize should be part of any Michigan man's vocabulary. Same with Sheridammit.
I heard that he had lost a lot of weight in the spring and in the summer and appeared to be in alot better condition thanks to Barwis.
unless Barwis performed liposuction, we should give Big Will some credit too. He's probably working his ass off!
With Big Will losing weight and adding muscle, our front line is going to be a beast.
In a year or two, maybe.
Will is a true freshman. You can't expect him to be a major contributor this year. If we had sufficient depth along the D-line, Big Will would almost assuredly be redshirted.
Will C. is an elite level talent and I think he'd see playing time regardless of the depth situation. Mike Martin, T. Taylor and I think Gabe Watson all saw the field as true frosh, and none of them had the universal blue-chip status of Big Will. Like RR always says, the best guys will play, regardless of class.
Especially this year. Big Will will probably be in on 3rd and shorts, undoubtedly in mop up situations (win or loss), and also goal line situations.
The line this year is gonna be pretty darn good if we steer clear of injury. In 2011, it's gonna be freaky good (Van Bergen, Martin, Campbell, Roh, LaLota, Paskorz, Wilkins).
Have even played in a game before, neither as a "starter" either. How about we say it has the potential to be freaky good.
I believe Watson played o-line as a true frosh and it was a tremendous waste of a redshirt year. I wish we could afford to RS Will.
they only look skinnier because of the "forgiving" vertical stripes on the sides of the jersey, which give the illusion of elongating and thus slimming the players figure.
Watching Big Will at practice yesterday, the first reaction of my buddy was "Wow, look at Big Will, get a picture of that." The dude is seriously trimmed down. He's going to be an absolute force to be reckoned with really soon.
So did you get a picture of that? If so, please share.
I've got one, but the angle is a little from behind and it isn't obvious he's smaller. Also, I have no idea how to post pictures here. Please enlighten if possible.
Tinypic.com will let you upload your own pics and give you a link to share them. Then it's just a matter of throwing the HTML image tag into your comment with that url.
on the other hand, vince helmuth looks like a tub or lard
lard is delicious. I recommend redskin potatoes, doused with lard and spiced with fresh garlic and rosemary. Under the broiler until crispy. Serve with garnish of ranch dressing.
No kidding. It reminds me of that famous Alex Mitchell picture from a couple of years ago.
WOW, that is a HUGE improvement. Thanks for the pic.
big will looks leaner, tighter and more agile.
Never was a jersey-chasing cougar myself... but +1 anyway
I thought there was talk about Tate putting on weight. The rosters have him only gaining 1 pound.
The weird thing was....there were empty bottles of MonaVie all over the place.
