Yah, stupid me.  I signed up for bowl tickets weeks ago before realizing who and where we were going to be playing.  Now, I'm on the hook for  nearly $1k worth of worthless tickets and airfares to FL are just prohibitive.  Now, I'll have to see if the AD can donate them to a military family or another charity.

My daughter the Hoosier just forwarded the IU deal.  They are headed out to Cali to play the Utes in the Bay Area (a big deal for Hoosier fans).  Whereas we're being fleeced for over $2k for three days in south Florida, their package is at the Grand Hyatt SF (team hotel) for two days and all of the good stuff for $900 pp.

To get to S. Florida if the package prices are out of reach.  I can't afford that either, but always interested to see what is included.  One of these days.

Only a handful of Michigan fans will go to the bowl game, and the rest will sit home in a tearful suicidal funk having concluded we'll never again field a competitive team under Harbaugh. Meanwhile, the team will mail it in feeling sorry for themselves for missing the playoffs.

Wonderful hyperbole, but Harbaugh has done an an incredible job in just two short years. Next year we'll be back to a young team but Jim has been recruiting well and M will certainly be competitive. It will be difficult to repeat this year's efforts and it is unfortunate that the kids and this team received a poke in the eye from the B10, officials, and the CFP committee. I guess it's part of being a Wolverine? Go Blue and trash the seminoles.

But as a federal employee I have to plan my leave for November-January back in September. I'll never get to go to any bowl games or playoffs games until I retire in 11 years.

Teachers/universities/etc. have a break, as do most of us in the auto industry. My plant shuts down and while some engineers come in for maintenance, I've got the week off. That's true across the industry.

If you're in healthcare... well people get sick all the time, so that's tough to schedule for you

the stadium will be packed with Maize and Blue. South Florida is like a "second home" to thousands of UM alums and family from the Northeast. Many of these fans always vacation there during the holidays anyway and Friday night is way better than Monday for attendance. The Orange Bowl ain't no fools. For midwest alums who don't like the tour price, fly into Orlando on Spirit and rent a car. Spend New Year's Eve at Disney, really cool for the kids and adults and fly back on Monday. Round trip from DTW to Orlando going for about $285 right now, but act fast.

I know many people likes to be cheap and do everything themselves and think $2900 for a flight and hotel - that's a rip off, but it's actually not bad.

Round-trip charter air service from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale - on a private charter, probably worth $1000 a ticket
Round-trip deluxe motor coach transfers from the airport to your hotel  - ~$30
Luggage handling and porterage at the airport and at the hotel $5
Three nights’ deluxe accommodations  $750
Welcome reception  $20  (drinks and snacks)
Daily buffet breakfast   $50
University of Michigan Orange Bowl Pep Rally (tentative)  (??)
Plus the complete game-day package:
Escorted deluxe motor coach transfer to and from the pre-game party and game  $30
Game ticket  $125?
Pre-game tailgate party   $50
And other goodies:
Optional tours, outings, and excursions
Custom Alumni Association souvenir package   $25 guess
Document packet, official bowl tour name badge, and lanyard  $10
Alumni Association hosts and escorts
Dedicated alumni information and hospitality desk at the hotels

So that is about $2100 of pretty fun and useful stuff that you are not likely to get going on your own.  Plus add in the experience of it all, being around the people, having everything taken care of for you, have hosts to help you out - it is certainly not excessive for the money.  Unless you are the type to just fly Spirit, stay in the EconoLodge, go to the game and then go home-  then yes, this is a bad deal for you.
