2015 Names To Watch: David Edwards
Position: Quarterback
Ht/Wt: 6'6" / 230 lbs.
Location: Downers Grove North High School – Downers Grove, IL
Offers: Illinois, Indiana, Vanderbilt
Michigan has only offered one quarterback in the 2015 class in Josh Rosen out of California and he told me that he has a fairly clear idea of where he wants to go and it’s definitely not Michigan. With Rosen probably Stanford or Cal bound there are several signal callers on the coaches radar and David Edwards is one of them. Edwards is a big, strong-armed kid out of Illinois with high interest in Michigan already.
He was in The Big House this weekend for the Notre Dame game and came away more than impressed. “It was awesome,” Edwards exclaimed to me. He, his father, and his offensive line coach arrived in Ann Arbor around 6 pm, in time to attend a recruiting presentation put on by the coaches at 6:30. Edwards told me that the presentation consisted of a dinner, a video from the Big House BBQ, and was capped off by some on-field chauffeuring for the pre-game festivities by Team 134.
Edwards admitted to the recruiting portion of the trip to being a bit short-lived, but did say it was an “unbelievable atmosphere”. Edwards was able to spend some time talking with coaches Mallory, Funk, and Ferrigno, which speaks volumes to their interest in him considering the magnitude of the game and the fact that Edwards doesn’t even have an offer yet.
Edwards told me that his chat with the coaches was great but they didn’t really mention the possibility of an offer, saying only that they really want to watch him play in person first. So far, two games into his junior season, Edwards has compiled 133 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns while completing 16 passes for 147 yards and three more scores running an option attack. His Downers Grove North squad is 2-0 with two shutout wins scoring 45 and 28 points in the two contests. He hopes performances like that will earn a Michigan offer, saying it would be awesome to be considered by the staff. I think Edwards is a definite possibility to receive an offer down the line and may be near the top of the list behind the aforementioned Rosen.

Do we want him at QB for sure, or might he be a TE? He's obviously huge and he sounds athletic.

After watching his highlight tape, I have to believe we're recruiting him as a TE or maybe even for defense. He's not that impressive throwing the ball, but he looks like a really good athlete with size and toughness.

the type of guy these coaches have been targeting- huge tall guy with a big arm.
Personally, I thinkt the game of college football is geared more towards someone like gardner, wilson, or braxton miller. I would rather have one of those type guys, but Im just going to trust the coaching staff, cause they know best

I have to agree, Gardners legs allowed us to punish ND for keying on our running backs with blitzing LBs, but the article did say he ran the option, but at 6'6 sounds kind of big for that. We'll see

But a guy with as many rush yards as passing, who is listed as "Athlete" on rivals, and dual threat QB on Espn is probably not the Navarre statue QB you would imagine, even if he is 6'6"

Um, there aren't a lot of Gardners out there to get - five star guys who can run and pass. As far as. Braxton goes, he is a spread o guy and we don't run that. Think happy Andrew Luck thoughts, that is what we want.

...b/c:
(1) he has the perfect first name for a Michigan QB from CA; and
(2) he is really, really good - White, a junior, in 2 games, has passed for 961 yards, completing 82 percent of his attempts and throwing 10 touchdowns without an interception, earning U.S. Army All-American Bowl high school player of the week honors after tying Kyle Boller’s program record with seven touchdowns in the Indians’ victory over Chaminade - translation, he is good.

I want him to come to Michigan
September 10th, 2013 at 9:07 PM ^
Yeah - very good. Would you be interested in going to check him out sometime? He goes to my neighbor HS so I probably will a time or two. Let me know and we can make it an MGoDate.

Will take a look at their schedule and check dates.

I 100% agree with you. Brady White looks very very good. After watching film on both guys I would prefer Brady.

sadness, Chaminade was my high school!

Very curious why you decided to include the tag "actual reporting" on this post. Seems a but pompous, especially for someone so new to the game.
September 10th, 2013 at 7:05 PM ^
Brian's used that tag for years for reporting actual things like pressers, talks with recruits, etc. as opposed to things like gifs of the regional chicken coop. It's kind of a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that many things on here are not 'actual reporting'
September 10th, 2013 at 7:08 PM ^
I am not going to try to answer for him, but if you click the "actual reporting" tag, it looks to be a common theme for what he wrote. I would assume it's more a tag used by the staff when writing about a conversation that was had and recorded as opposed to opinion type pieces and mass update type stuff.
Edit: Beaten to the punch.

Fair point. On first read, it was offputting.
September 10th, 2013 at 7:13 PM ^
Lol. I like that you're ready to throw down to defend MGoBlog's honor, though!
September 10th, 2013 at 7:42 PM ^
I think that ship has sailed. And there have been plenty of sailors in this town.
September 10th, 2013 at 7:46 PM ^
Ha. I didn't read it as if he was slamming MGoBlog, but rather other Michigan recruiting writers, several of whom I believe do a fantastic job. Although I do think Brian and Co. put out a tremendous product.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:21 PM ^
It looks as if this question has already been answered pretty accurately, but "actual reporting" was a pre-existing tag that Brian told me to use whenever I actually talk to a recruit. I thought it was really funny that such a tag exists, which I think is the point.

Anyone have any ideas who would be on the short list of guys Michigan goes after once they move on from Rosen. Edwards, White, I know Dillman is supposed to be good, and I believe in stater Malzone (spelling?) is down the list a fair bit.
Any other names that people have been hearing?
September 10th, 2013 at 7:41 PM ^
"Like" - big guy who passes and can run. But maybe he would make a better TE. Either way, looks good - see how he does this Fall.
September 10th, 2013 at 11:34 PM ^
Could you care?
September 11th, 2013 at 9:20 AM ^
Should he of said Couldn't or was the point mute?
September 10th, 2013 at 7:54 PM ^
Can't say I ever expected to see the field where I played high school soccer to appear on the front page of this blog...
September 10th, 2013 at 8:39 PM ^
Should we still call them Team 134 or Tribe 134? Personally I prefer Tribe 134.
September 10th, 2013 at 9:13 PM ^
Josh Rosen sucks.
September 11th, 2013 at 9:18 AM ^
I thought you were being good in order to get Yost back.
September 11th, 2013 at 6:14 AM ^
a scholarship at QB. Sounds like White is much more up our alley at QB.
September 12th, 2013 at 10:51 AM ^
FWIW: A friend is friends of the family and he said that David's brother (or cousin) played at Illinois and his coach was Curt Mallory.
