no wonder we hired Hunter Lochmann
In the discussion of myriad coaching candidates on this board and the main page, there has been nary a mention of Mike Leach. What gives? Pros:
- Awesome, fun to watch offense that throws it 60 times a game and racks up yards by the hundreds
- Turned a historically mediocre Texas Tech program into a perennial winner in a brutal division
- Has taken Washington State, maybe the least-advantaged Power 5 school in the country, to a bowl game in year 2, and has come inches away from beating Oregon in year 3 (also outgaining opponents in their other losses)
- Press conferences would be hilarious
- Would absolutely take the job
I know there's the whole Adam James concussion thing, but it seems pretty likely that was a witch hunt conducted by a crazy administration. And we seem to have no problem overlooking shady business when it comes to Gundy or Miles. What gives? Is it just the cultural fit thing again? It seems like he should at least be in the big bag of names being tossed around.
WSU receiver Marquess Wilson, who was suspended by the team for the standard "violation of team rules" is asserting this is a lie and that he has left the Cougars due to abuse by the coaching staff.
"My teammates and I have endured this treatment all season long. It is not “tough love.” It is abuse. This abuse cannot be allowed to continue. I feel it is my duty to stand up and shed light on this situation by sacrificing my drams(sic), my education and my pride. I resign from this team. I am deeply sorry to those I am letting down. I am not a quitter. I was raised by my family, and many previous coaches to exhibit dedication and embrace sacrifice, but there comes a time when one has to draw a line in the sand."
There are no specifics provided, but given similar allegations against Mike Leach in the past, the allegations will be examined closely.
Caught this in the Twitter-sphere today and thought it would be appreciated here. Apparently Mike Leach was at a book signing recently and....
Let the Mike Leach rumors run rampant. Ralph Friedgen is now
officially out at Maryland.
When Friedgen's departure is announced, former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach will immediately emerge as the clear front-runner to replace Friedgen. There is mutual interest between Leach and Maryland, according to three people, two of whom are close to Maryland and one of whom is close to Leach.[...]
Leach is said to be very interested in the job. He has a strong relationship with Kevin Plank, a former Maryland football player who sits on the school's board of trustees and whose apparel company, Under Armour, is the outfitter for the school's athletic teams.
Got this video clip of one of Leach's speeches to his team - presumably at the end of the season.
In a 6 min clip there are 37 F-Bombs dropped - I know RichRod is known in the Big Ten as having "colorful" language but I'm pretty sure that's 100% because it's the Big Ten and F-bomb rampages don't really happen like they do, apparently, elsewhere.
