"The University of Illinois is also in turmoil. The university sports an Interim Chancellor, an Interim Athletic Director, and an Interim Football Coach; the game will be played at Soldier Field, making this an Illini Interim Home Game."
Ok, this may be a long shot, but hoping that at least one member of the MGoCommunity has some advice.
I'll be in Bangkok, Thailand when Michigan plays MSU on 10/17 at 3:30 Eastern. If my time accounting is correct, that will be 5:30 AM on Sunday, October 18th, Bangkok time. Does anyone know of any bars/restaurants that may cater to Americans wanting to watch some college football? I tried the Michigan Bar Locator under "Useful Stuff" and a google search and found nothing I'm confident in.
*Having never travelled to Asia before, I'm just making the assumption that the hotel won't have ESPN or ABC. For you world travelers, is that assumption correct or is there a chance I'll be able to watch from the comfort of my room? I'll be staying at a Hilton branded property if that matters....
So I'm stranded over here in London for the duration of the football season, and wanted to know if there are any MGoBloggers out there with some inside information about where to watch games. There apparently used to be an Alumni club in London, but it now appears to be defunct.
If you know of a bar or you'd like to meet up, let me know.
Apologies to the board, as I know this sort of thing is looked at with slanted eye. I posted it in the morning here in GMT-land so as to avoid clutter when most of the folks who read the site were asleep. Also, the bar locator did not provide any relevant information for London - I checked first, honest. The one bar listed (Harry J. Beans) is a general sports bar with American sports on offer, but does not have any specific ties to UM. Probably should have mentioned that in the first place.
Anyway, carry on, y'all. Mods can feel free to disintegrate this at any time.
This will be a mostly self-serving post, but I will add a dash of benefit to the greater MGoCollective.
The self-serving part is that I am looking for a Michigan-friendly bar in Miami, FL, where I have just moved. The excellent Google Map sticky maintained by JLo lists two bars in pretty far north Miami, but I am looking for one closer to downtown, say, from Brickell to South Miami, including Coral Gables. Any suggestions?
The collective benefit part is that I would encourage everyone to visit that sticky and populate it further. It's a great resource and one we should try to keep updated. And thanks, JLo for doing that.
As a final reward for your indulgence, I offer this:
So I just realized that I will be in India during the Ohio State game this year. My sister is getting married there so I don't really have an option. Obviously, I tried to get her to rescind the invitations, break up with her fiance and/or have the wedding in Ann Arbor but nothing has worked so far.
I have also written multiple letters to Jim Delany asking him to move the game to an earlier point in the season because that seems like a reasonable solution and Jim Delany seems like a reasonable guy. (/too soon?)
This too seems unlikely.
Any Indian mgobloggers have solutions that ideally don't involve live streams?
I recently moved to Houston and am looking for the best place to gather with alumni and fans to watch games on Saturday this fall.
Sorry to take up board space, but mgoblog has consistently proved to be the best way to find information like this out. I have previously lived in Chicago and Washington D.C. and you guys didn't let me down as places recommended were fantastic.
Hope to see you (or should I say y'all now?) on Saturdays. GO BLUE!
Having not experienced a World Cup in Ann Arbor before, which bars do you think will be the most packed and/or rowdy for USMNT games? I've heard good things about Conor O'Neill's, but I figure that BDubs and Cantina might have good crowds as well. Where will you guys be watching the games?
