OT: This is What Happens When You Have A Mascot
So I am generally against the idea of having a mascot, although I do understand how it makes us more likeable to a younger audience. Anyway need another reason to be glad that we don't?
I give you from the University of Minnesota:

OT: Military Bowl Mascot
It looks like the Military Bowl took a page out of MGoBlog's ideas for a mascot. Maybe there is possibly hope that if Michigan one day does resort to a mascot, Emmy will be the actual choice.
Mention of a Mascot in the UM/Alabama Contract (Commence Panic)
In this annarbor.com article regarding the contract signed for the UM/Alabama game there is this gem of a quote.
http://www.annarbor.com/news/michigan-football-teams-2012-opener-against...
"The U-M marching band will receive free entry and reserved seating. U-M cheerleaders, dance team and mascots will also receive free entry."
Do you think this is a contingency plan or that there is a legitimate possibility of a mascot (or multiple mascots) unveiled in the opening game next year?
Let the meltdown begin.
A mascot compromise?
While we wait for someone to create an MGoRegistry for Brian (MDen? American Tailgater?), I thought I'd throw an idea out to the community regarding the mascot fiasco.
It seems that Brandon's motivation for even considering such a horrific idea was rooted in marketing. He wants added publicity for the university through a mascot, which leads to additional revenue. At least I hope that's why and it isn't just so he can get the mascot on one of those ESPN commercials. This idea seems short-sighted to me. How much marketing or revenue can such a mascot really bring in - especially at the expense of alienating a large portion of the fan base?
Here's my idea - why not create an animal habitat and bring in some actual wolverines? You can create this habitat in the area between Crisler and Michigan Stadium. During game-days it would be free admission with a ticket stub and all the kids he wants can come get their picture taken near the wolverines. When there isn't a game going on they can charge a small amount of money (kids free, alums discounted, etc.) to come and see the habitat. They can put in some nice museum-like information, including a history of the original wolverine mascots, Biff and Bennie.
I can already picture the panning camera shots of kids jostling for position in front of the glass while ABC comes back from commercial during a Michigan beat down of a rival.
Special Bonus: While confirming the names of the original live mascots, I came upon this unique "fact" on Wikipedia:
Blogger Brian Cook, owner of the popular blog MGoBlog, was given the middle name "Biff" by his parents as a tribute to this legend of Michigan sports.
Can any readers confirm whether this is true?
I've told the pimp hand to talk to the, er, Hand
I've been in favor of most decisions of the pimp hand and the athletic department. But finally joing the ranks of the idiotic phone mascots is something I can't get behind.
