Stevie Brown & Jason Avant: Time for NFL Open Thread
Stevie Brown and Jason Avant open Giants-Philly game.
First play: Vick to Avant (tackle by Stevie Brown). Four plays later, what's becoming typical Stevie-Flash: He intercepts Vick and returns 48 yards. (Giants TD a few plays later.) The semi-bad news: Avant was injured defending Stevie's return, but the good news is he's back on the field and just made a nice 15-yd catch. (Defended by S. Brown.) Positive Brandon Graham sightings as well.
I believe that's Stevie's 10th interception* for the season, either leading or tying the current NFL season record. The injured DB he'd replaced is now playing on the other side of the field, so there's no question Stevie's solidified his starting role.
*CORRECTION: As noted below, it's his 8th interception for the season, briefly tying Chicago's Tim Jennings for the season lead. But now that Jennings has made his 9th... A great season so far for Stevie. (Unfortunately Chicago is now in the process of ending that season.)
OT: Jason Avant beaned in the head gifs
So I know we saw Ace's gif of Avant's insane one-handed catch in the run-up to the NW game last week on here, but today on SBNation they reminded us he is in fact mortal in this gif, where he slipped on his turn and wasn't ready for the ball when it came his way.

From the opposite angle:

Tough break for Avant. Aside from this though I'm glad to see he's still mostly doing well in the NFL. I'll always remember him for that NW grab.

PS - Sorry I don't know how to make the gifs stop and start on a click like Ace does.
A good story in light of today (but not about today)
I am still smarting from the loss today much of which stems from how we could not make MSU pay dearly for their less than sportsmanlike gameplan. In light of that, I saw this article about Jason Avant (yes, I am an Eagles fan) about his upbringing and his incredible character and resilience.
It is uplifting to see alumni like Avant making a statement with actions and few words that makes me proud to be a Wolverine. Just something to give perspective about the character of people who come through this program, win or lose.
Go Blue!
Jason Avant's Father Dies
His father, Jerry Avant , died after he lost control of his car and ran into multiple trees.

Jason Avant tough as ever
I was just paging through my SI NFL preview when I ran across a quote I thought was worth sharing, and I love to see this guy get some positive publicity. The context- Justin Tuck describing the Eagles response to giving up 12 sacks in their first meeting.
From the first snap of that second game, all we saw was seven man protection, with wide receivers chipping. That's not something you don't see much of at all, and the best guy, by far, was Jason Avant- the most annoying person I've ever run into on a football field. He did something on almost every snap to knock us off our rush.
