Peppers at 10, which seems low.
Stemming from a Domestic Violence arrest that he had. Basketball-wise, it is a pretty substantial loss to them (he averaged about 15.5 points and 5 rebounds last year, torched us for 23). They suspended him immediately after it happened months ago, and waited on the results of the case (he plead guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery) to make a final decision. Illini basketball just got a lot less dangerous.
Injuries have been a running problem in the NCAA and B1G this season, not just at UM. Apparently the Illini have decided to take a drastic step though. Their roster was down to only 7 players versus Purdue this week, so effective with Saturday's game against Minnesota, they are adding a player to their roster. The team's former student manager, Ryan Schmidt, has been promoted to walk-on status and will now be suiting up for the Illini. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I just hope it doesn't ever come to this for us.
Nothing has been substantiated yet, but there are reports that Illinois has fired co-OC Chris Beatty. Given the tire fire that was Illinois football, it's probably no surprise that someone from that staff was going to be let go.
Edit: As BrownJuggarnaut pointed out in a post below, the story is now confirmed.
Here is a story from the Daily Illini: http://www.dailyillini.com/sports/men_sports/football/article_dcaa024a-578c-11e2-8ab8-001a4bcf6878.html
Key bits from the article include that the Illini were 119 out of 120 NCAA teams in total and scoring offense and that this is their fifth OC change since 2008.
I avoiding posting anything after the last few losses, but I'm pleased to share my homage to Saturday's win.
Since I couldn't find a good picture of the final play, I created one by combining other pictures; so it's not completely accurate. i hope you like it.
