I was watching the Iowa vs. Maryland NIT semifinal game last night and I was curious how our old friend Evan Smotrycz was doing. It seems like he's doing well; getting ready to finally play again next season. I found an article from February where he says he has no regrets leaving Michigan, even after taking into account all of Michigan's success this year, but I have to wonder if he has second thoughts now that Michigan is in the Final Four. Imagine, Smotrycz's Lobstrycz's in the ATL showcased on college basketball's biggest stage.
It must feel like dumping Kate Upton, before she becomes "the Kate Upton", because you wanted to be with someone else who you thought would make you happier.... (just speculation).
The fact that fans are turning on him so quickly makes me sick. Don't get me wrong I am pissed at the fact we lost. I know Smotrycz did turn the ball over at a crucial point, but if you are a 4 seed, it shouldn't come down to one play in the first round. Where were all of these Smotz haters after he saved us against Minnesota? I know his defense wasn't great, but that isn't why he is in the game. Whenever a kid goes 6/7 including 2-2 from downtown I don't understand why you can all of a sudden HATE a kid. He and THJ were the only reason we were in the game at the end to begin with. So rather than resenting a kid for the rest of his life because of one turnover, how about you continue to support him and the team in the coming years as we continue to greatness.Mod Edit: the sentiment is great, but this topic is flame bait right now. Who would have thought that our bigs would be the difference? Love that pick and roll with Morgan and hope to see more of it. Morgan is starting to go to the hoop more aggressively. He and Smotrycz showed some nice footwork in the game too. Definitely seeing improvement in both. This team has heart and deserves to be in the dance.
So I was reading UM Hoops basketball practice notes (MGoLicious), and at the bottom, they had some stuff about Evan Smotrycz, which I can neither spell nor ever recall how to pronounce. As such, my brain always goes straight to "Evan Metrics", which we all know is actually correct anyway. However, it did get me thinking about what other players have names that people stumble over. We're not replete with Timoshenko Biakabutuka's anymore, too bad, but I'm sure there are still some.
I actually have problems with T-Wolf. I dunno why, but I invariably stumble whether in speech or in writing and I try to put an "r" in there and make it Woolfork.
