Hockey pet peeve: "when a teammate tips a puck in on you, which is exactly how my first collegiate goal against happened. Thanks, Copper."
The Michigan SB Team remains at #9 in all 3 polls (ESPN, Coaches, RPI) this week. The Team had a mercy-rule victory over CMU today at Alumni Field 11-0. All 11 runs came off the bats of two players; Ashley and Romo.
Ashley went 3 for 3 with 6 RBIs and 2 runs scored. She went deep and long TWICE. Romo went 2 for 3 with 5 RBIS and 2 runs scored. She went deep and long TWICE as well. Colie went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.
Haylie was the starting and winning pitcher today. She gave up no runs off 2 hits. She had 6 strikeouts and no walks in 5 innings of work.
A very good outing today against a decent MAC Team 25-14 (11-3). CMU is in second place in the MAC West. We play a CRITICAL 3 game series this weekend in Lincoln Nebraska against the #10 (RPI) 'Huskers. This will certainly be a great test for us. If we win the series, we should secure #9 or even gain in the polls.
Now I promised Brooke Ward that I would not jinx the team by making any bold predictions. On Sunday, I was watching the first game on gametracker while driving down I-94 and heading to the Emily Hepker Fundraiser Game. I texted Brooke and told her that we were going to mercy Iowa before I got there as we were leading 6-0 at the time. Well Iowa came charging back and made it close. So I will refrain from jinxing the team for the rest of the year. Sorry Ladies.
UPDATE: Emily Hepker remains in Minnesota receiving treatment for cancer. She has been there for over 30 days. She is still feeling less than perfect today. She really wants to thank everyone for supporting her. We still have T shirts for sale if anyone would like one. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org and you will be the proud owner of the MLE Support Team Shirt.
The SB Team had some very cold bats today just like the weather. Sometimes is snowed sometimes the sun shined through and warmed things up only to hide again. But in the end, the SB Team was victorious.
Today was also a fundraiser for AD employee Emily Hepker. As I posted previously, Emily is in the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota battling cancer. Former player and one of my all-time favorite people in the world, Brooke Ward, led the charge to help Emily. Wolverines Trooper volunteered as well. He braved the cold and was a real "trooper". It is not easy for him in the costume but all went well.
Sierra Romero had the only M hit, a line-shot down the right field line and over the fense. The ball barely reached 10 feet off the deck. The ball appeared to be rising as it left the field. That was in the 4th inning. Iowa led 2-1 at that point.
We could not get anything going until the bottom of the sixth. Bases were loaded when Sierra Lawrence singled to center scoring two. Kelsey Susella, pinch hitting for Amy, singled up the middle that appeared from my vantage point to hit second base. This drove in 2 more runs. In the top of the 7th, Iowa scored 1 but could do no more.
Sara was the starting pitcher and pitched very well. However, Coach saw something she did not like and gave Haylie the ball. Haylie came in and pitched very well. We were certainly the better team today although the "Get-Off-My-Lawn" guy sitting behind us didnt think so. Im not sure he could even see the game.
We play Iowa tomorrow for a DH at Noon and 3pm. The 3pm game is on BTN. Please watch and look for Wolverines Trooper trying to help Emily.
Michigan Athletic Department Employee (HR Dept) is at the Mayo Clinic in Mn getting treatment for cancer. She is only 24 years old.
Emily is an awesome person and a HUGE softball fan. She is probably the biggest SB supporter. Former M Softball Standout Brooke Ward is selling T shirts with proceeds going to Emily and her family in Mn. Emily is in constant pain but always has a smile on her face.
You can contact me (or Brooke) via Facebook (M-Go Softball) and you will get hooked up. The T shirts ($20) are very cool and were shown on BTN on the MSU broadcast.
