Mason NEEDS this, Pistons, after all you've put him through
I guess I missed the CRex post awhile back and only first read about this after Heiko asked Borges about it at yesterday's presser. Essentially receviers break down into 3 categories:
Hands Guy: Dependable at catching the ball.
Deep Threat: Can get six points
Route Runner: Most likely to be open.
How do our WRs fit into these categories? I see it as the following:
Route Runner: Jeremy Gallon is poised for stardom and has multitude of shifty moves and excellent footwork to consistently get open.
Hands Guy: Drew Dileo not only provides YAC but will grab anything close to his catching radius.
Deep Threat: Jehu Chesson looks to fill this role (along with Gallon).
Losing Amara Darboh defintely hurts but we at least seem to have the depth to fill in for his absence. Borges went out of his way to day how suprisingly fast Darboh is but I think that was more in relation to his size. Chesson has legitimate track speed and we will need him to at least run deep routes and threaten the field vertically.
Braylon Edwards' job is in jeopardy after the Jets signed Mohamed Massaquoi yesterday:
Steve Breaston was released by the NO Saints a couple days ago:
Mario Manningham was placed on the PUP list by the SF 49ers and will miss at least the first 6 games of the season:
David Terrell was arrested on felony drug charges a couple days ago in Chicago:
And of course, Amara Darboh is out for the season after foot surgery. Jeremy Gallon and Jason Avant need to be extra careful right now.
SLIGHT MOD EDIT - I modified the title so that people would not think that the current Michigan WR depth chart was taking further hits. LSA
Good article about Darboh and Chesson and their roles at Michigan. Really pulling for both of these kids, they seem like two examples of what makes Michigan football truly great.
Great to finally get some perspective from some of the underclassmen. Interviews with Miller, Godin, Darboh, Chesson and Norfleet included
AnnArbor.com reports Amara Darboh is looking good in his first few practices as a Wolverine.
Featuring quotes from Roy Roundtree such as:
"He's really fast and strong. Amara, he just showed out today. I feel like he's really being comfortable. I told him, 'It's football, man. It's just a faster pace.' And he did it."
"I quizzed him last night to make sure he was on his Ps and Qs. He asks a lot of questions, but he did a great job.His head is spinnin', just like all the other freshman. Asking questions. But he's a great kid."
Open thread to post interesting nuggets coming out from Team 133's first practice.
From Chris Balas, Stephen Nesbitt, Sam Webb, & Wolverine Nation twitter:
Roy Roundtree: Amara Darboh was the most impressive freshman today
Will Campbell weighed in today at 310 lbs. Hoke would be surprised if he didn't play well this year.
Gardner did take snaps at wide receiver today.
Jibreel Black returned bigger. Both Black and Roh impressed in offseason conditioning.
Ricardo Miller will play TE and WR.
Fitz Toussaint and Frank Clark did not participate in first practice today.
