spoiler alert: i linked this
Side note: woohoo first post! I've been lurker since '08, but finally decided that I should join the party. Thank you all for entertaining me at work for the past 7 years.
I've been asked to conduct an alumni interview of a prospective student. Has anyone done one? Any suggestions on questions to ask besides what's in the manual?
I figured it was a good chance to make someone listen to me talk about U of M for an hour. I'm out of state, so I don't get that opportunity very often.
Searched and could not find it posted yet:
I have applied early action to UM and was wondering when the decisions usually come. The website says "no later than December 23rd" which makes me think that it should come at least a couple of days beforehand. When did they come last year?
This probably fits in the "Cool Story Bro" category, but I'm very amused, and I thought I'd share. I'm the parent of rising high school senior (an awesome Michigan fan!) who has good grades and test scores and, as such, gets a lot of unsolicited email from colleges. Today she received one from "The Ohio State University" with the subject line "Feeling the love?"
I was feeling awkward and I hadn't even opened it. It was remarkably brief, and the highlight was this:
It's entirely possible that you are the brightest student ever.
The Ohio State University just might be the finest institution of higher education on the planet.
Seems we should learn more about each other.
They really published "finest institution of higher education on the planet." Words fail me. I figured y'all could help me respond appropriately.
I received my letter from the admissions office. "We have carefully reviewed your application to the Rackham School of Graduate Studies. We gave your application serious consideration and made our decision on many factors......."
I read this from by BB. I dropped the phone on the table and said out loud..."Awwwwe shit". The waitress came over and asked if every thing was ok.
I picked up the phone again, all pissed off. The font was very small so I enlarged it. It continued: "The Graduate Committee has recommended you for regular admissions to the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies."
I then yelled "fu*k yea". Everyone at the diner looked at me funny again. I appologized but with a smile on my face. They must have thought I was crazy. What a rush.
My baby sitter was displeased that she got a deferment from UofM, she said there was a spike in applications this year b/c of some new admissions process. Her # was 10k more than usual, I have no idea if that is true.
From what I gathered from a 17 year old girl who was visibly upset about her situation...Basically, you can fill a common form online pick the schools you want to apply to and then answer UofM specific questions.
Does anyone know about this? I was able to get an early decision for the fall of 97, how does this new process compare?
