"He's a hard worker, and he watched me and Tim (Hardaway Jr.) and Nik (Stauksas) put work in to become (first-round picks), and I'm just happy he's getting better," Burke said. "It's great for the program, too. It shows what type of program the University of Michigan is and the direction it continues to go in."
A couple of weeks ago Warren, Ohio, DT recruit Hjalte Froholdt surprised quite a few people by committing to Arkansas over thought-to-be front-runners Michigan, Florida State, Alabama, and Ohio State.
I spoke with Hjalte today. Froholdt told me that it just came down to "a gut feeling," which probably isn't as interesting to you as the fact that Michigan finished an extremely close 2nd place to the Razorbacks:
"I just had a feeling that Arkansas was a better fit for me. Just the whole feel of Arkansas. I could just picture myself there for the next 4-5 years. The campus was just awesome to me and the coaching staff is excellent there. Michigan was so close though, it was marginals separating the two. They are both great and amazing schools!"
Froholdt was a great kid to talk to and had a really unique preparation and recruiting process being a native of Denmark. He went to high school for one season in Ohio and is now back in his home country finishing high school. He will return to the US for his college football career with the Razorbacks.
I did this week's scouting report on Southfield (MI) Southfield defensive lineman Malik McDowell. It might seem a little late in the process to do this, but I hadn't seen good video on McDowell throughout the recruiting cycle. The film from Loyola was minimal and from poor angles, so I had a hard time drawing many conclusions. Now he has a full highlight video on Hudl (from a good angle!), and regardless, he looks to have significantly improved.
Rivals released the top 250 players for 2014 at noon today. If you follow recruiting closely, you probably can guess by now that...all of Michigan's commits dropped in the rankings. Michigan has five commits overall in the top 250.
Rivals updated its top 100 for 2014. I guess it's been lost in the hoopla of the All-Big Ten teams, Ohio State, USC, etc.
Peppers is still #2, but Drake Harris dropped off the list. The Rivals 250 will be released tomorrow.
Here's a rundown of all of Michigan's targets:
I've put together a visitors list for the upcoming game against Ohio State. If you have any additions, subtractions, updates, etc., leave them in the comments. These lists are always fluctuating.
This week's scouting report is on Sugar Land (TX) Fort Bend Austin running back Vic Enwere, who was offered by Michigan last week. Michigan is looking for a RB in the 2014 class and has little/no hope of pulling in consensus top back Leonard Fournette, so they're casting their net a little wider with the offer to Enwere. He's currently committed to Cal.
