After reading all the whinging on the UMass thread I started wondering what we all do with extra tickets. I couldn't use my SDSU ticket due to a work conflict, so I gave it away to somebody who had never been in Michigan Stadium before. This strikes me as a much better thing to do than wasting time trying to sell it.* It also strikes me as a much less petty thing to do than holding out for face value when I'm getting my money's worth out of the rest of the season anyway. I've occasionally seen other people giving away tickets on the board, but I'm curious how common that approach is. So what do you guys do?
*Well, I did offer it to my coworkers for $10 OBO first, since $10 is the street value of an unvalidated student ticket to a low-to-medium demand game.
A nice piece on Jordan Diamond from Sporting News regarding his selection and commitment to the new Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl. They have him as the #19 player in the nation, and are very high on his personality off the field. I really hope we can land this young man.
In continuing the trend of being very high on off-field personality, Rivals has a nice article about Mr. Banner and Mr. Garnett. They mention twice that the two are considering going to the same school. Looking at their lists, that would pare it down to Cal, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC and Washington. Any way you slice it, that's a pretty good final 7.
Two 5-star O-linemen in the fold already, with the possibility of adding one, maybe two... three?!
With the two new commits, Michigan now has 11 prospects who have made at least one of the recruiting sites' (Rivals, Scouts, 247, ESPN) Top-250 lists. (150 for ESPN)
4 lists: ILB James Ross, CB Terry Richardson
3 lists: OT Erik Magnuson, WDE Tom Strobel, OLB Royce Jenkins-Stone
2 Lists: ILB Joe Bolden
1 List: TE Devin Funchess, WDE Mario Ojemudia, WDE Pharaoh Brown, DT/SDE Matthew Godin, ILB Kaleb Ringer
Obviously, LB and DE are stacked... each position is filled completely with recruits who have made at least one Top-250 list. Pretty impressive. I can't wait until a few more of these OL recruits drop. I would imagine they will be quite pleased to have that defensive front 7 to practice against for the next 4 years. It looks like Hoke's focus is the defensive front 7 and the offensive front 6; where championships are made! Go Blue, baby!!!
Is there any doubt we will add a mac team to the 2012 schedule? Michigan’s open dates are 9/15 then ND on the road, and 9/29 then Purdue on the road in the BIG opener. Alabama in Dallas and Air Force at home are the other non-conference games already on the schedule.
Most MAC teams seem set with 4 non-conference games or are otherwise out of realistic contention. With Umass joining there is some potential for changes.
-Buffalo (UGA, Morgan St, Uconn, Pitt--ugh)
-BG (FL, ID, VT, RI--doh!)
-Miami (Ohio St, Boise, Mizzou, Cincy--ouch!)
-NIU (IOWA, UT-Martin, Army, Kansas)
-Ohio (Penn St, NM st, Marshall, Norfolk St)
-Ball St (Clemson, Indiana, USF, Army)
-WMU (Illinois, EIU, MInny, Uconn)
-Kent (Army, UK, Rutgers, Towson)
-EMU (Purdue, Mich St, Army, open date on the 29th)
-CMU (Mich St, Iowa, Navy , open dates on the 15th and 29th)
Leaving as realistic choices.
-Temple (Penn St, Maryland, Villanova, open dates on the 15th and 29th)
-Toledo* (Arizona, Wyoming, Coastal Carolina, open dates on the 15th and 29th)
UPSHOT: Clearly, Brandon based on odds, goes for UMass then Akron or Toledo on the 29th preferably but the 15th is okay if you can get Umass. Temple could be a wild card from the MAC or could Brandon go Coastal or Appy St on us?
Amirite? Are there rumors I've missed?
Not sure if this has been reported by someone else already - but Temple AZ Offensive Lineman Andrus Peat has been offered by Michigan per Rivals.
6'6, 270 ... looks like a beast
His offer sheet looks to be pretty heavy with around 25+ BCS offers.
Anyone have a scoop on him?
This maybe premature - but I'm pumped about the 2012 recruiting class.
I was wondering who the community thinks will be our first 2012 commit and when will it be coming.
My guess is that it will be an Ohio kid (Wormley) sometime in this next month or so - considering that tOSU already has two other top DEs in the class committed
