OT - Ronnie Lee promoted to co-defensive coordinator at Minnesota

Ronnie got a promotion today by Coach Brewster. He will split time with Kevin Cosgrove, who coordinated Wisconsin's D from 1995-2003, and then destroyed Nebraska's defense from 2004-2007 with Bill Callahan.

Congrats for Ronnie. I don't think a co-defensive coordinator set up is a good idea, lest at Minnesota, where their attempt to have Mike Dunbar and Mike Davis share offensive duties lasted one month when Dunbar resigned Monday. But, Brewster knows what he's doing, right?

The Daily Gopher Takes Offense to MGOBLOG

The folks over at The Daily Gopher (www.thedailygopher.com) have taken offense at Brian's comment yesterday, in his "voracity" post, that Minnesota's current coach (Tim Brewster) isn't recruiting much better than the previous coach (Glen Mason). It turns into a "Brian doesn't know what he's talking about" post, which is comical, and it looks at empirical analysis as to how much better of a recruiter Brewster is at Minnesota.

Of course, when one looks at Brewster's current class (2 four stars, 13 three stars), it looks nowhere near as good as Michigan's current class (13 four stars, etc.) So, I'm not sure Minnesota should be waxing ecstatic about Brewster's recruiting prowess. But, the fact that The Daily Gopher has to defend Brewster's recruiting, when that is the only reason he was hired, raises questions to me (as a Minnesota grad) as to whether that guy should even be in his job.

Will this bring McNeal back?

So now that we beat Minnesota pretty soundly (and with Sheridan at quarterback, no less), does this have any bearing with McNeal liking us at all again?

I, myself, would hope this changes his mind but there is mounting evidence against me:

- He said he had a pretty good time at Oklahoma and that program is always in the national title hunt.

- There was that whole facebook thing where he said that he's not going here.

- We have two great WR recruits coming in for the class of 2010, so maybe he's resigning to the fact that there'll be more competition for a spot

- Minnesota can be seen as a program on the rise, which they are, and he might want to help them gain some prominence, plus he's almost guaranteed to see significant playing time if he goes to Minnesota, since we have Stonum, Odoms, Robinson, Mathews, Clemons and Hemingway all coming back.

Any thoughts?

Does Minn win benefit recruiting?

With today's glorious win under our belt, I did some blog reading and came across Gopher Nation saying they were going to have 10 recruits in for today's game, including one Bryce McNeal... Do you think today's game would have any impact on McNeal reconsidering us? I mean with Noodle Arm Nick we threw for 200+ yds and Minnesota's passing game, with a QB who's going to be there for another 2 years, looked completely pathetic in a HUGE game for them (Big 10 title, new year's bowl still theoretically within reach)... it is possible that McNeal may have seen this and said, "damn, maybe Michigan will throw the ball and I can get some?" Will the absolute lethargy the Minnesota fan base showed have any impact on Bryce?

Better question-- do we care anymore or has the coaching staff moved on... hoping TomVH chimes in.

Plus, I saw that Marquis Grey was in... is this the same dual threat QB that we were midly interested in last year? It said he was an academic non-qual..
