i find this extremely interesting
Michigan State
Draymond Green at Spring Event
I attended my first spring game this past Saturday and saw something interesting that I don't think anyone has mentioned. On the sideline for the scrimmage chatting it up with Larry Foote and a couple of other unknown people was MSU's own Draymond Green. Anybody know why he was there? And on top of that why he was on the sidelines?
I understand that among players and schools, even rivals, there are a lot of friendships...but this one just struck me as being a little odd.
Rooting for the most points in a half record?
I know it sounds petty, but I was really rooting for NC to break the most points in a half. While I care little for NC, I found some simple joy in having State's name next to that "record". I may have not cared so much in the past, but have really soured on State more in the last few years, mainly due to their increasingly hostile stance against us. Hell, I even cheered for them when Cleaves and company won it a while ago. That time has passed.
OT?:Sports and the Economy
If I hear one more person try to argue that the success or demise of a sports team has any correlation to the economy I will quit this board! PAAALEASE! "State won the NC in b-ball, I can't wait to go buy a 2009 Silverado!" "The Red Wings just won the Stanley cup, I can't wait to invest in Better Made potato chips!" "The GR Griffins just won the IHL! I am going right to Steelecase to buy that sweet new office desk!" or "The lions went 0-16, that's it, I am not shopping at Meijer this year!"
I think you get my point. Please don't mix team pride with economic vitality.
If your team wins, you may buy a hat or T-shirt, but that does not have much effect on our economic health. Unless a resident MGoEconomist can prove me wrong.
OT - Bandwagon MSU fans
You know, I really don't have a problem with bandwagon fans (it's sort of obnoxious, but I'm not about to pitch a fit about it), but isn't this the kind of thing that MSU fans always give us shit about (I mean, aren't bandwagon UM fans the origin of the whole "Walmart Wolverine" thing)? The proliferation of MSU gear in the bars the past few days has been surreal.
On a side note, some random dude I'd never met before got in my face last night because my response to "Hey man, isn't it great that MSU made the finals?" was "Sorry, I'm not a State fan." Classy.
Conboy Signs with Montreal
"Andrew Conboy, suspended by Michigan State this season for an attack on a Michigan player, signed a three-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens on Monday."
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3947144
I guess getting kicked off the team was a blessing in disguise for Conboy. Unfortunate wouldn't you say?
Wide Receiver U?
So this kid Tai.ler Jones just cut his list from 28 to 15 teams. One of the reasons he kept Michigan State is because he says Michigan State is known as "Wide Receiver U"!!!!
When has MSU been known as "Wide Receiver U" ?
I couldn't stop laughing.
