For prospect Nieves, game at MSG teases what's to come
“We were playing Montreal,” Berenson recalled. “Somebody threw an egg from the balcony, hit Gump Worsley on the head and knocked him out. Gump was playing for Montreal then. He was a fan favorite in New York, but obviously, when he came back wearing a Montreal jersey … anybody, somebody hit him with an egg. It was amazing, really. He finished the game, but it was scary for a while.”
Merrill confident he made the right decision
"The amazing thing about Coach Berenson is he cares more about you as a person than as a hockey player," Merrill said. "He wants to see you be the best you can be as a hockey player, and realize your goals, whether that's to be a pro or not. "

“It really got the monkey off our back,” Michigan coach Red Berenson said Monday. “We couldn’t seem to win. 1996 got that behind us. It was so good for our program because it had been a long time since a team won a national championship even though we had good teams. That was huge. That was not only for that team but for all the former players.”
Michigan hockey team won't worry about standings
"It's about us playing better and finishing strong," Berenson said on Tuesday. "I think we're finding ways to win games that we necessarily haven't been the better team or where we have given up too many scoring chances or we didn't kill a penalty we should have. ... But when the smoke cleared, we still won. "Is that a good sign? Maybe. But we can't keep giving up seven goals a weekend and expect to win games."
