Temple is an extremely beatable team and the only reason we split with them is because we didn't bring our bats with us the first game. The first pitcher they threw to us was pretty slow and rather inconsistent. I remember she had a rise and change up, both of which she threw frequently but were never called strikes. The second pitcher I don't remember as clearly, but I know she was faster than the first (but still not overpowering) and didn't have too much movement to it. So at the plate just be patient and wait for the pitcher to throw a strike.
Hitting wise, they weren't really over powerful either and I would classify them more as a speed type of team. We made a few mental lapses on defense that allowed them to score when they did, and if I recall correctly their 1 and 4 hitters were probably their best. Number 1 was also fairly quick and will stretch for an extra base if given the chance. Number 4 was a big leftie, and I stayed low and away from her for the most part. The only pitch she hit hard off of me was a changeup (but it was a pretty fat pitch) so by no means be afraid to throw her one -- I'm fairly certain our other pitcher struck her out (possibly more than once) on a changeup as well. Otherwise, I don't remember many other big hits by their team so I assume just mix it up and I have no doubt that Michigan's pitching staff is good enough to beat them (and will probably have their own scouting report).
On a side note, we were Temple's first game so there is a chance that there have been adjustments made to the lineup and the team might be playing differently after getting some games under their belt. However, from what I saw they are not an extremely difficult team to beat so long as you come ready to hit. Good luck to Michigan tomorrow!
Also, thanks to everyone again for the congratulations and support!
MGo User, MeganGoBlue pitched one hell of a game for her team. She pitched 4.1 innings giving up 3 ER in 5 hits. She struck out 4 but walked 5. She was the winning pitcher in a mercy rule win.
I cannot identify which D1 team she pitches for because of security purposes. She has NOT identified that team so I will not either. It is awesome to have "one of our own" pitching so well. Congrats Megan and we are all proud of you.
But I have to ask, Whats up with the 5 walks? /s
Michigan's comeback bid against syracuse earlier fell short, as Michigan lost 4-2. Michigan just avenged the loss and beat virginia 7-1.
Baseball smacked chicago state around like 1950s housewives earlier, winning 17-8. But in their second game of the day, they fell to xavier 7-4 to drop Michigan's record to 6-5 on the season.
Tomorrow Baseball will play xavier again tomorrow at 11am.
Softball will take on temple at 11:15am.
Both teams will only play one game tomorrow.
Early Friday the USWNT beat Norway to go 2-0 in the Algarve Cup. First half was scoreless. Abby Wambach scored her 133rd career international goal in the 51'. She doesn't have much of an angle, but enough to get a shot off the far post and in. (If videos don't show, I'll post below.)
Sub Sydney Leroux scored on a header in the 81'.
Norway scored in the 94' (grr).
Japan, which has beaten Norway 2-1 and Denmark 2-0, is up next on M 3/5 @ 9:10 AM ET (ussoccer.com will have a match tracker). The US has the edge in goal differential, so only needs to tie to win Group B. Beating them will feel much better, of course.
Sweden and Germany are contending for Group A; their game starts at 10 AM ET. Both beat China 1-0; Germany also beat Iceland 1-0, but Sweden beat them 4-1, so have the GD edge. Winners of Groups A & B will play for the championship; 2nd place group finishers will play for 3rd place.
The U-20 WNT is in Panama competing in the CONCACAF Championship. They opened by beating Guatemala 6-0. Lindsey Horan got a hat trick.
Next up is Cuba, Sun 3/4 @ 5PM ET. Concacaf.com will stream (free registration required, I think).
Big win for the ladies today beating UCLA. Any year to beat them is big, but with this young team early in the season could go a long way for them. Down 3-1 early the lady wolverines came back to tie in in the bottom of the 5th 3-3 and took the lead 5-3 in the bottom of the 6th for good. Big win and just nice all around in the comeback.
