no, YOU'RE off topic
Michigan's Jordan Taylor was invited to try out for Team USA Softball. Jordan has been "lights out" for us this year. She has a 12-1 record, 0.85 earned-run average and 130 strikeouts through 90.1 innings, thus far this year.
If you have not seen Jordan pitch, this should be on your M-Bucket list. She is truely a special asset for us and is a "one-in-a-lifetime" player. She is certainly a top 10 all time M player. I hope she makes the USA team. If the Olympics brings back softball, then Jordan will be representing.
As we all wait for the CCHA Tourney and NCAA BB Tourney, perhaps we ride the tide of Maize & Blue spirit to help another important group in the UofM athletic campus. The athletic trainers have entered a contest. The submission from the University with the most views of its video wins a prize. Here's the link.
We have all noticed in recent weeks certain websites (ie www.channelsurfing.net) having their domain siezed by Homeland Security b/c they were streaming games illegally. Well there was a new proposal in Washington today to revise the copyright law...specifically illegal streaming. Here is a quick breakdown of the proposal:
- illegal streaming would be considered a felony.
- wiretaps would be authorized for investigations.
- if homeland security seizes any hardware/software (ie dvd decoding software) they will assist the copyright holders in pursuing civil action.
If you want to read more into the politics behind this proposal here is a link to a great article on CNET NEWS:Whitehouse wants new copyright law crackdown ...was trying to stay away from the political side of the story, but thought this was pretty interesting to say the least.
Bobby Hurley is in a Dove commercial and I couldn't help but think there were possibly some shots at the Fab5 doc in it, though most likely accidentally.
Anyone else see the commercial?
He's talking throughout the commercial about what he had to overcome and what made him a winner and then at the end he says "I'm Bobby Hurley, and I'm comfortable in my own skin."
If i'm not mistaken there was something in the doc referencing Webber "never being comfortable in his own skin"
Could be a total coincidence. I found it amusing either way.
Oh yeah, and F U you little prick.
The time change must have altered the Michigan Softball Mojo today. The Wolverines had a difficult time in the second game today against Louisville. They just could not get the bats going for this game either.
M only had 5 hits but it was enough to beat Louisville 2-0. The key play was speed. Jaclyn Crummey was a pinch runner for Caitlan Blanchard, who singled in the 5th. Jaclyn stole two bases to get into scoring position and Lindsay Doyle hit a single to drive Jaclyn in. In the top of the 7th inning, Ashley Lane led off with a triple off the wall in centerfield and scored on a SF from Caitland Blanchard.
Nicole Sappingfield's 20-game hit streak came to an end. She went 0-3 in the second game. Thank you Colie for a great run, not too shabby for a Freshman.
Stephanie Speierman started on the mound in the second game. She allowed 0 ER on 5 hits (2 for extra bases). She gave up 2 BB and had 4 Ks. She was relieved by Jordan Taylor in the 6th inning with 2 runners on and no outs. JT came in and struck out the first batter, and forced the remaining two hitters to hit into outs, thus preserving the shutout.
In the first game today, the Wolverines were hand cuffed by Hilltopper pitcher Mallorie Sulaski. The Wolverines were able to scratch out 2 runs on 6 hits but it wasnt enough as WKU scored 3 runs off 4 hits.
M pitcher Jordan Taylor was in great form this morning. She gave up 3 ER on 4 hits with 12 Ks and 3 BB. She gave up only 1 extra base hit and 1 HBP. One of the key plays was a bases loaded walk in the 3rd inning followed by a single for 2 runs in the bottom of the third.
The offense was led by none other thatn Ashley Lane who hit a 2 run HR in the top of the 7th inning for the only Wolverine scores. We also had 10 LOB there was plenty of scoring opportunities, including the 1st inning when we had bases loaded with only 1 out and did not score.
Nicole Sappingfield extended her hitting streak to 20 games as well.
All in all, it was a dissapointing game considering we had so many opportunities to score. We just couldnt get the bats going. Combine that with JT's less than perfect outing led to a rare Michigan loss.
This is the worst type of loss. Sometimes the bestter team does not always win. Michigan did not commit any defensive errors although WKU took advantage of a bad defensive throwing decision, and scored. It was not scored an error as poor decisions rarely do.
Michigan better bring their "A" game next weekend for the Judi Garman Classic at Cal St Fullerton. They will play Arizona and Arizona State, which are both ranked teams.
Found this interview of Rubin Carter by Juan Williams absolutely fascinating, not because this is a fresh and interesting story, but because this a fresh and interesting interview. This interview should be mandatory watching for young people. Carter had every reason to remain a bitter and angry man, after being wrongly jailed, instead he became this fascinating and interesting individual. After watching this, I am convinced Rubin Carter was wrongly incarcerated. Very interesting and straighforward man. I never had much of an opinion as to Carter's guilt or innoncence, but after watching this, I believe if Carter had actually murdered those people he would own up. Impressive man and well worth an hour of your time
For you that don't know, Carter's case was made famous by Bob Dylan with the song Hurricane. Carter was the #1 contender for the middle weight crown when convicted of his crime in 1966.
Watch this interview you will be glad you did
