landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
The University of Michigan Softball team came in at #24 this week in the RPI. The mid-week loss to Western Michigan (1-0) at home did not help. We did not get a bump from smoking moo u.
Other teams of note: ND at #32, NWU at #47, Purdue at #48, Wiskey at #53, Illinois St at #60, Miami (NTM) at #68, one of my personal favs Valpo #74, ohio #74 and Illinois #79.
Only 64 teams make the tournament, 4 teams in one of 16 host sites. We better not lose anymore games if we want to host a regional. We don't play anyone the reminder of the year that will give us bonus points.
For all of you NCAA video game nerds out there, they just released who would accompany RGIII on the cover of the game this year. On the EA facebook page, they let people vote on who it would be. Unfortunately, Desmond did not make it but I heard he is going to be in the game as a commentator.
The Michigam Softball team remains in first place in the Big Ten with a 2-0 victory against moo U. Ashley Lane came up with the big hit to score bree. Sara Driesenga got the win. She allowed 6 hits. I'm am at the game so I don't have the official totals yet.
Spartina threatened in the 4th inning but great defense saved the day. Msu had runners on 1b and 2b with no outs. Chiddy made an over the railing foul catch near the camera-mans booth. She came up firing and gunned the runner trying to advance to 3rd. She didn't look, she just threw it: a perfect strike to Steph. Haylie Wagner came in relief in the 6th for the save.
Overall a good softball game today. The game was delayed 53 minutes due to rain. The grounds crew did a great job today.
In the second game, Haylie Wagner was the star. She only allowed 2 hits with 5 K and 0 BB in a 5-0 win. The young lady was en fuego.
But the play of the game in my opinion came from Sara Driesenga. In the second inning, Ashley walked. Sara reached 1st as the throw went to second but Ashley was safe. Haylie hit a SF to RF moving Ashley to third, Sara still on first. Amy hit a simple grounder to 2B. Sara realized that she was going to be tagged out so she stopped running and back peddled to first. Amy made it to 1st safely as the second baseman ran after Sara.
That is a play that coaches go over with their players every year. I have never had a player execute this play. Sara nailed it to perfection. Now here comes the real bad part. Amy steals second and Ashley is on third. Lauren gets up and belts one in the LF gap for a double and both runs scored. But wait.........moo u coach calls time and talks with the Home Plate Umpire. Lauren is out for batting out of order...no runs score. EDIT: Lauren's number was printed incorrectly on the line up card.
Sara later in the game hit a shot to deep right field. It landed in the second from the top row. I went out to measure and it was at least 250...can you say Dorian Shaw power? Lauren hit one deep too at about 235.
Overall a good day for the ladies in blue. The alumni band sounded good and the alumni players were on hand to "cheer them again"
This picture is from the cheer team's recent competition in Florida....
If you want to see the thing, click the link, and select Intermediate Coed from the competition selector above the video and then scroll through the list and look for Michigan. Or just type Michigan into the search bar and select "all competitions" and find the one that has this set up.
Viewer discretion is as advised.
Meanwhile somewhere, you will see this:
If you watch the video, it seems that it is the resurrection of Willy the Wolverine.
Wilk gets the start to fill in for Fister and made it through the 1st inning.
The Tigers are the only team in all of MLB to not give up a run in the first inning yet this season. Long gone are the days of Jeremy Bonderman I guess.
The Michigan Softball team traveled to East Lansing to put a thumping on sparty 8-0 in 5 inning mercy-rule win. We started out a tad slow but in the top of the 5th inning, the bats exploded for 8 runs.
Lauren Sweet went 1 for 3 (HR) and 3 RBIs. Amy Knapp went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Ashley Lane went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Haylie Wagner started in the circle today. She gave up only 2 hits while striking out 2. She also went 1 for 1 with an RBI.
Overall, sparty is a very bad team. So it is expected that we win. The game started slow but we game alive. I always say, a win is a win.
Congrats to the ladies. I will be at the game tomorrow, tailgating. So stop buy and I will have a cold beer for you.
