They signed Justin Durant to a 2 year contract(can't find the salary). He'll play WILL LB for the Lions. Good signing. Young and athletic who can play 3 down.
The Lions are going after Jonathan Joseph and Stephen Tulloch. With the cap space, I'm not sure if they have enough cap space to sign both players. Joseph is likely to be signed anywhere from 7-10 mil a year and we don't know until Nnamdi Asomugha sets the CB market. The Lions have already offerred Tulloch 6 mil a year(w 10 mil guaranteed money).
So far, good start by the Lions by filling one of their bigger holes, OLB. I think that if the Lions don't land Joseph, I expect them to re-sign Chris Houston because I don't think the CBs available in the FA market are better than him.
This is the third (Driesenga, Wagner) in a series of profiles of players that have committed to Michigan. Like the previous 2 "Hello" posts, the National LOI signing for softball is in November. So this is more of a player profile than a recent commit as we have been accustomed to.
I waited for tosu debacle to "calm down" a little so Lauren can get the proper MGoRespect she deserves. This young lady will be a valuable asset to the team. She brings that "pop" in the lineup that we lost when Dorian graduated.
Lauren is from the Southern California southwest of LA, Corunna Santiago. Her high school is in the same league as Jordan Taylor's and Ashley Lane's high schools. This area has produced several dozen D1 softball players. This is primarily due to the fact that these young ladies can play ball year round. I doubt many even know what a "snow day" means.
Lauren is a catcher for Corona Santiago. She finished the season with a .496 average, an .564 OBP, 1.000 SP, tied an Inland area record with 15 home runs and set a school record with 50 runs batted in. Another great thing about Lauren is she is a lefty, something we have not had is a few years: LH bat with power.
Lauren was selected as the California Division 1 Player of the Year. That is not an easy award to get considering California has so many great players.
I suspect that Hutch will try to get her into game-shape as soon as possible. Last year Chiddy started at catcher and Blanchard finished up. This was due to Stephanie tearing her knee up after game 10, forcing Amy from 3rd to SS, Chiddy from C to 3rd and Fr Blanchard off the bench to starting C.
Lauren has more pop in her bat so she will probably take over as the starting catcher somewhere early in the season.
Welcome Lauren. I hope you brought your long johns and 4-wheel-drive. We hope your stay in A2 is enjoyable and we wish you all the best. Everyone should think about getting your tickets early as I predict a better team this coming spring than the 2010 team.
Also, HS So. Erica Romero, Lauren's battery mate, is also rumored to be looking hard at Michigan. Hutch has developed this area of California as a Wolverine breeding ground. Most of these kids are ripe for the Pac-10 but Hutch cracked that nut a few years ago. That would be a nice pick up as well for the future.
Its Great to be A Michigan Wolverine.
The more I post, the more I find myself wanting to use "us" and "we" when talking about the football team. I am not a U of M grad, although I steered my little brother to Michigan over ND and tOSU and he graduated in April.
I have developed a strong aversion to people who have no connection to a school using inclusive terms like this. I don't know if this is a result of constant bombardment from tOSU fans who act like they've toted the ball for the Buckeyes, called plays, etc. or if I'm being self conscious because I'm not a real Michigan Man. Pro sports fans don't bother me because you don't have a realistic chance to be a part of the team or organization at that level.
Is there a name for this disorder? Am I alone?
Could technically be on topic due to Wolverine movements (including the Webb signing) but meh. Movement/discussions began at 10 AM for free agents and I know this is a special time for Lions fans. Personally I'm waiting to see who gambles big on Reggie Bush.

Jordan Taylor led Team USA to a 6-4 victory against Japan in the championship game of the World Cup of Softball at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City Oklahoma. This is the headquarters of ASA softball.
Team USA fed off the strong arm of JT. JT had a no-no going into the 5th inning before the wheels came off. Japan bitch-slapped us for one run in the 5th and one in the 6th. Japan rallied for 2 runs in the 7th but that was all.
JT gave way to Chelsea Thomas in the 5th who gave way to Keilani Ricketts in the 7th who picked up the save. JT pitched 5.1 innings and gave up 1 ER off 3 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1. JT faced 21 batters.
Nice job ladies and thanks to JT, who continues to amaize us.
As many of you know, the International Olympic Committee voted to eliminate softball from the Olympics. They say softball give the USA an unfair advantage because we are so good. Here is a petition to reinstate softball to the Olympic games. Please take a moment to sign it.
Finals against Japan and their ace pitcher (Yukiko Ueno) tonight (8:30 EDT on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com), following the US's 10-0 blow-out of Great Britain yesterday. Per previous post, Jordan closed out the Saturday victory against Japan with 4 strikeouts of the only 4 batters she faced. Per NewsOK (The Oklahoman):
Team USA is expected to start University of Michigan pitcher Jordan Taylor, but coach Ken Eriksen said “the entire staff will be ready to go."
