The big American, John Isner, is stumping Nadal in their first round match at the French. Isner has won the last 2 sets in tiebreaks and it helps he is 6'9" and has one of the best serves. I'm torn. I like Nadal but this is massive.
UPDATE: Nadal forces his first EVER 5th set at the French. He wins despite Novak level of grit from Isner.
The Men's National Team announced the roster for the 2011 Gold Cup today, and one of the surprises is that Freddy Adu was named to the team.
Those left off include Bunbury, Gomez, and Davies.
I'm going to the game in Detroit and am really excited to get to see some of the younger guys like Lichaj & Agudelo in person. Thoughts?
Reports going around the news that Red Wings D-Man Brian Rafalski will retire on Wednesday...
Probably because of the knee and back problems that have really hurt him the past few years. I did not see this coming, but this will probably be a better situation than a not healthy Rafalski for the future. The ultimate positive spin to this: That is $6 million more for Ken Holland to play with/make some magic happen.
I just wanted to mention that I ran into several members of UM's field hockey team, though I'd be hard pressed to remember just who from the roster pages. I'm bad with names and faces.
The girls were at Sterling State Park in Monroe, MI to take part in a charity walk raising funds for Neurofibromatosis research. My understanding was that only one of them was related to somebody with NF, and a distant relation at that, but five or six of them had chosen to come out and walk to support research. They were very polite and fine representatives of the university. We should all be proud.
On a depressing note, I said to myself, "These girls are in college?! Holy crap, how old am I?" Yeah... I'm old.
Those that follow Premier League Football know that no manager is safe, particularly at top teams. Chelsea took silliness that to new heights today, firing Manager Carlo Ancellotti in the hallway after today's game at Everton. This after a second place finish in the league this year, and after having won the double for the first time in club history LAST YEAR. There is no sport's owners more about what have you done for me lately than that league.
Anyway, I know there is a majority of mgobloggers who don't like to see soccer news, but there are many that do, so here you are.
Top of the second, 0-0. Let's go girls! Lost 7-6 yesterday to Kentucky, but that was with a great comeback, making it a good game.
We need to win two more to advance, loss and we're done.
