Today down in Columbus, the Wolverine ladies won their 4th straight B1G Regular Season Championship. In dominating fashion over ohio in a shutout.
The Women's Tennis team is currently ranked #6 in the nation with an 18-4 overall record and a 10-1 B1G record. Right now the Men's team is taking on #4 ohio at VTC. Match will decide the B1G Championship on the Men's side.
Absolute great athletic season. Championships galore. And we aren't even done yet.
The SB Team had some very cold bats today just like the weather. Sometimes is snowed sometimes the sun shined through and warmed things up only to hide again. But in the end, the SB Team was victorious.
Today was also a fundraiser for AD employee Emily Hepker. As I posted previously, Emily is in the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota battling cancer. Former player and one of my all-time favorite people in the world, Brooke Ward, led the charge to help Emily. Wolverines Trooper volunteered as well. He braved the cold and was a real "trooper". It is not easy for him in the costume but all went well.
Sierra Romero had the only M hit, a line-shot down the right field line and over the fense. The ball barely reached 10 feet off the deck. The ball appeared to be rising as it left the field. That was in the 4th inning. Iowa led 2-1 at that point.
We could not get anything going until the bottom of the sixth. Bases were loaded when Sierra Lawrence singled to center scoring two. Kelsey Susella, pinch hitting for Amy, singled up the middle that appeared from my vantage point to hit second base. This drove in 2 more runs. In the top of the 7th, Iowa scored 1 but could do no more.
Sara was the starting pitcher and pitched very well. However, Coach saw something she did not like and gave Haylie the ball. Haylie came in and pitched very well. We were certainly the better team today although the "Get-Off-My-Lawn" guy sitting behind us didnt think so. Im not sure he could even see the game.
We play Iowa tomorrow for a DH at Noon and 3pm. The 3pm game is on BTN. Please watch and look for Wolverines Trooper trying to help Emily.
I wanted to seek out some concrete opinions from MGOpeeps who have been traveling to A2 consistently for weekends, specifically for football weekends. I have done it a couple times, once at a 1.5 hotel that won't be named, as well as staying at a nice Marriot in Plymouth.
What advice or suggestions for hotels, rentals or one time weekend packages might anyone suggest for people who would like to do it more frequently during the football season? Obviously, we all have the ability to use websites that specialize in hotels and motel purchases, however, these suggestions would be for the unknown or not thought of or wouldn't normally consider type advice. E.g., I have been looking at a couple houses in A2 and Witmore Lake that rent out much like a hotel, but it would be best for a small group or more.
As we look at the schedule this year, ND, MINN, NU and OSU are prime weekends to hangout in A2 and have a great time not only at the games, but enjoy A2 and re-live old memories.
What say you...
Michigan wins their 5th National Championship in Men's Gymnastics. Hail to the Victors.
Michigan went 1-2 in the Individual All-Around. Sam Mikulak wins his second Individual All-Around Title and Adrian de los Angeles finished 2nd.
Alina Tsarnaeva , sister of the Chechen bombers, lives in NJ and was interviewed through her door. She claims to have not spoken to her brothers for a long time and the Chechen bombers were not accepting of her husband because he was not muslim. What a terrible tragedy all around and I hope they catch Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev (her brother) alive... so he can give some answers for why he would do such a thing to innocent people.
Also thought it was pretty crazy that NY Post and other news organizations were mis-identifying random people as the bombers. Too many trigger-happy journalists trying to break the story first w/o much fact-checking.
Mod edit: Leaving this one up, but from now on new discussion should be kept in the "Boston Terrible Things Open Thread" (or here, obviously). JGB.
