I saw an interesting scrum last night at my kid's middle school baseball game. A 20 hopper was hit down the 1st base line. It followed the first baseline about 6" in till about 2 feet before first base. At that point it hit something and went airborne and veered over to the foul side of the line. The first baseman was standing on his bag - both feet in fair territory - and caught it in mid air with it never touching the ground in foul territory. The ump called the runner out and the batting team's coaches went nuts.
I was under the impression that as long as no part of a defender's body is in foul territory and the ball has not yet touched anything in foul territory the defender can grab it in mid air and make a play. The coaches seemed to diagree, obviously.
I know there's a few real umps on this board so I'd like to hear what the right call is.
Michigan softball recorded the second mercy rule win of the day 8-0 against tosu. The first game today was a 9-1 mercy rule victory.
Jordan Taylor pitched the second game as well for her 101st collegiate victory. She finished the shutout with 8 Ks and 1 BB.
The offensive heros were Alycia Ryan, Ashley Lane and Amanda Chidester. Alycia hit 2 solo dingers in 3 plate apprearances. Ashley Lane went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Amanda Chidester missed a second grand slam of the day by 3 feet. She had bases loaded but the deep fly ball was caught for a Sac Fly and an RBI.
It was really nice to see JT pitch so much. My guess is that Hutch will pitch JT a lot of innings the remaining 4 games. JT has never had an endurance problem but throwing 150+ innings in a 2 day span builds stamina.
Blue Dragon, you have something to add????
Does anyone know of a site where I can watch games...I live in Ohio and used to watch all the Tigers Lions Pistons games on Justin tv then that stopped doing games ...then there was channnelsurfing net and that was siezed...so whats out there now..im dying here watching gamecast
Well I think all of our fears have been answered today regarding JT and her Rotator Cuff injury last week. JT was back in her usual dominate form by striking out 10 and walkiing 1 and yielding 1 ER off of 1 hit. The win was JTs 100th win in her college career at Michigan.
JT looks like she hasnt missed a pitch and is ready for the post-season that begins 20MAY11.
The offensive heros are Amanda Chidester and Ashley Lane. Chiddy went 1 for 3 with 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Her only hit was a grand slam home run in the second inning. Ashley went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and 1 run scored. She also hit a tater, a 3 run shot in the first inning.
Overall, a very nice win as compared to last nights game against EMU. I know we have a open thread but I thought JTs 100th was worth its own thread.
Blue Dragon, you know what to do.
