With the Cavaliers bringing home the first title to Cleveland, Ohio since
the Declaration of Independence the Civil War Prohibition WWII John Williams composed anything worthwhile Lyndon Johnson was President, it seems reasonable to discuss what the worst sports city is in America. While the Lions are major suckage, at least there are three other teams in Detroit that have won titles in (most of) our lifetimes.
In my opinion it is still Cleveland, but who else should be up for consideration?
For me it's the paintings my girls made in preschool. They're very proud of them. My five year old spent some time to sound out and write happy Father's Day. It's more like "hapi f:asprs de", but she did it herself.
Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central junior pitcher Meghan Beaubien threw her second-consecutive perfect game to lead her team to a 6-0 win over Grandville Calvin Christian in the MHSAA D3 title game Saturday.
Beaubien, Gatorade's Michigan Softball Player Of the Year, threw the second perfect game in MHSAA Finals History. Beaubien committed to UM during the winter of her freshman year:
The Richmond Blue Devil SB Team won the Division 2 State Championship today at MSU. They defeated Vicksburg 2-0. The team is lead by Freshman Pitcher Erin Shuboy. Erin made history for Richmond. She threw a complete came no-hitter, which is only the 14th time in state history a no hitter has been recorded in the finals.
This is the first State Championship for Richmond and Coach Howard Stuart. He has taken the Blue Devils to the State Championship three other times in his great 38 year career.
I had the pleasure of coaching against these fine young ladies over the past 8 years. The HS players stay together for summer travel for the Richmond Blues. So these girls play over 100 games per year together.
This team reminds me so much like M SB. Richmond is strong up and down the lineup with bench players getting into the game often. They will steal home plate if you are not careful. They are a lot of fun to watch, and dare I say, they are fun to coach against even though my record against them is less than .500.
You might remember some Michigan SB players that Hails from Richmond. Pitcher Mari Foster (1984-1988) and SS Michele Teschler (2001-2005). Coach Hutch has a great relationship with Coach Stuart so maybe the pipeline will continue.
I would love to see Erin in the circle for the Block M in a few years. Erin is a hard throwing, dominating pitcher who can reach 65 and occasionally 70mph on the gun. She is a Jackie Traina type pitcher.
Congrats to Richmond Blue Devils and Coach Howard Stuart.
Happy Saturday, Summer is here, obligatory 'What are you drinking' thread.
Drove by the farm down the road and my friends' daughter is getting married in 90+ degree heat, outdoors. It is indeed wedding season and it occurred to me that it might be fun to have a honeymoon thread.
So, today's bonus question is this: Where did you go and what did you do on your honeymoon?
N.B. - This is a 'G'-rated question. Hatter, Dr.Jaws, a few of you others, this is not a question about your spouse's anatomy or their athletic prowess. Show-offs.
Hope you got out and enjoyed the heat today, maybe went swimming or were productive at your house. Have a great Sunday too.
Per Mlive, Michigan is increasing tution by nearly 4 percent this fall - 3.9 percent for in-state students and 4.4 percent for OOS students.
The increase puts freshman tuition and fees for Michigan-residents at $14,402 in the lower division — up from $13,856 in 2015 — and $45,410 per year for non-Michigan residents — up from $43,476 last year....and this does not include room and board, which is also being increased.
Here's U-M's recent tuition history:
Out of state tuition
Michigan is hardly alone with tuition increases, Recently, about half of all students, undergrad and grad, are not from Michigan.
If you want cost of attendance numbers, here's the link, and it is not pretty:
