Team 40 travelled up to Mount Pleasant for a mid-week showdown with the CMU Chippewas this afternoon, and will be heading back to Ann Arbor with a 2-0 win in their pocket.
While the winning streak continued for the Maize & Blue, the offensive Rennaissance from the weekend did not, as the Wolverines struggled to generate anything at the plate. Kelly Christner was the hero, driving in both of the Michigan runs, going 2-for-2 with a solo shot and an RBI single. She also drew a walk to load the bases with no outs in the top of the 7th, but nothing came of the threat.
Fortunately, Megan Betsa made sure that none of that mattered today. She carved up the CMU order, going the distance while allowing just one hit. While her 9 Ks on the day are actually a little low by her standards, the senior ace extended her scoreless-innings streak to 36.
More importantly, the team is now on a 9-game winning streak. The Northwestern Wildcats will put that to the test over the course of a 3-game series at Alumni Field this weekend. The Cats are struggling this season, but did manage an upset over a ranked Wisconsin team last weekend. Michigan will likely need all 3 of these just to keep pace with Golden Gophers in the conference standings.

It's that time of the year when many are either on the road or preparing to depart for some type of spring break, pursuit of warmth, flight to sunshine, escape from snow, etc.
So the questions are: What are your spring break plans, assuming you are taking one, where are you going and whose going with you?
What and where was your best all-time spring break memory?

Michigan softball won for the second time in as many days at Alumni Field, whalloping the Penn State Nittany Lions 8-0 in a 5-inning, rule-run beatdown. After struggling to get the offense going yesterday, the bats were blazing hot today. Michigan jumped right on top of Penn State, scoring 3 in the bottom of the first, and put up crooked numbers in the 3rd & 4th as well - they didn't even need to bat in the 5th to secure the win.
Faith Canfield was the driving force on offense today, going 2-for-3, including a solo home run and a two-run triple. She also scored the run to put the game into run-rule territory, motoring home after the PSU pitcher lost control of one.
In the circle, Tera Blanco was in command. She pitched all 5 innings and allowed 2 hits. Some control issues did crop up, as she issued 4 walks and a HBP, but she still managed to keep the goose egg on the board.
The two teams will square off again tomorrow at 1, as Michigan looks to keep pace with the conference leaders in the standings.
