further adventures in Jed York being unsuited for his position
Big win for the #8 Women's Gymnastics team over #7 perennial powerhouse UGA Gym Dawgs.
National Team selection camp ended earlier today in Irvine, CA and the announced roster includes SS Sierra Romero and former C/IF Amanda Chidester. Romero should be in the running for national player of the year again as a junior in 2015, and Michigan is more primed for a run at a national championship than they have been in a few years (and for a couple to come, IMO).
For those that don't follow softball, making the US National Team isn't quite like making the US Olympic basketball team, but it's also not that far off in the sense that the US is almost always a heavy favorite in international competition. Romero and Chidester will play for the US in the World Cup of Softball and the Pan American Games this July.
Sierra Romero's younger sister Sydney (2015 Oklahoma signee) made the US Junior National team.
Since we can't leave Harbaugh out of anything, here's another Hutch tweet.
Any other space geeks on the board? Duh, of course...
There are always lots of morons looking at photos from Mars Curiosity or Opportunity and going, see, that's a face of a person or a paw print, etc. But this is NOT one of those cases. This is being reported by a reputable scientiest who is not in the space sciences, but an Earth scientist, who saw something in Martian photos.
This one article linked below from space.com (a serious science news website, not a "sky is falling, we're being visited by aliens" shop) lays it out -- although its being reported elsehwere. Curiosity has photographed sediments in the Martian soil that look exactly like ancient sediments on Earth, all over the planet, formed by microbes living in wet environments. The number of similarities is striking and the alternative, non-life explanation would require extraordinary coincidence. The scientist discovered this after working for more than 20 years on Earth sediments, then she saw a picture from Mars last year and recognized instantly the shapes she was seeing. Other scientists -- like, NASA-type guys -- are saying, it's not proof, but it's really compelling.
Spooky. But... utterly fascinating.
Will require a sample return mission to cut up the rocks in more detail, unless you can ship an electron microscope to the Martian surface. (Although, Elon probably already has those plans drawn up.)
MGo soccer fans - I know Beckham had more global appeal but is this on par in terms of impact on the field? I know it's not the same Gerrard as 4 year ago but a 10 year captain from one of the biggest clubs in England? Pretty cool.
Non soccer fan translation - this would be like Yzerman leaving the Red Wings to go play in the KHL (Russia) at age 36.
Got a few German pilsners over here. Spending the evening both watching the Wings kick this road trip off, and wondering just how much the past month of M basketball has shaken my love/confidence level for coach B. I honestly could feel it move from a 10 to a 9 during that massacre in Lafayette today (I'm not an idiot, thoughts of firing don't even begin to enter the conversation until the confidence level hits the 3-5 range.)
Hope your beer is cold and your home is warm!
