Since football season is over, if the Mods have decided that nominal "OT" season is OK, I propose discussing something that's not Hoke and Harbaugh.
What does everyone want to receive as a gift for the holidays? I'm very bad at suggesting gifts for myself and wouldn't mind some crowdsourced ideas as well as hearing what the MGoCommunity is expecting/hoping to receive in their stocking/under their Menorah/next to the Festivus Pole/[whatever your holiday tradition is].
Is an XBox 1 worth it? Does it need the new Kinect?
Will this thread get 70 replies that are "All I want for [my holiday of observance] is Harbaugh"???
A reminder to all ye consumers: you can support MGoBlog simply by buying on Amazon through the link at the top of the site! You're not even spending any extra money! I just bought me a new Black Friday deal laptop on Amazon and I supported MGoBlog in doing so wheeee!!!
And I avoided this:
Anyone braving the idiocy? If so, for what deals?
The link above (if it works correctly) contains details about Division 1 athletic departments that lose money and suggests that UAB may be the first NCAA Division 1 football program to disband since 1995. Although the fact that many athletic departments operate at a loss is no surprise, I was surprised to see schools like UNLV and Cincinnati on the list.
Also, while UAB is no football power, they are no doormat either. If they abandon football, you have to wonder how many others will follow, especially if rule changes permit the Power 5 schools to provide additional benefits.
Not sure this is an appropriate topic, but it could definitely have widespread implications. And, UVA's president is Teresa Sullivan (former UofM provost). Link: http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/uva-suspends-fraternities-following-rolling-stone-campus-rape-investigation-20141122
Anyway, for anyone interested in the original Rolling Stone report: http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/features/a-rape-on-campus-20141119
It's definitely a...strong move. I'm sure it will be critiqued in the coming weeks. Could lead us down a slippery slope--a pretty extreme move rather than an attempt to reform anything.
EDIT: this comes a week after WVU suspended all greek life following the death of a student related to hazing
Around 12:30am, a gunman entered Florida State's Strozier Library and shot three, injuring them and sending them to the hospital. As of now, there are no deaths being reported. There are varying reports about what happened to the gunman. Some are saying he is in police custody, others are saying he was shot and killed by the FSU PD. Either way, the FSU PD must be commended for their extremely quick actions which could have saved numerous lives tonight.
Here is a video taken by a student in the library just moments after the shooting occurred. I can't even imagine being in their situation, and my heart goes out to them.
Just senseless and tragic. I'm going to have a hard time sleeping tonight thinking about this. Thoughts go out to all students and families of students right now, hoping everyone stays safe.
There has been a lot of negativity this year (bad season, concussion gate, fire Brandon, fire Hoke, Frank Clark, etc). I think we need to take a break and consider all of the good things in our lives and about this community.
I personally am thankful for having a great family who made it possible for me to attend such a great University. I am thankful for the the Education this University gave me and the future it has created for me.
Remember, we are all maybe just a few stupid decisions (either ours or someone elses) away from having all this taken away from us.
What are you thankful for ?
EDIT: Sorry too many e's. Spelling goof.
