Chase Young becomes highest drafted Michigan lacrosse player

Michigan's Chase Young became the fourth player from the University of Michigan to be drafted in the MLL Collegiate Draft two nights ago. Young was drafted 35th overall by the Denver Outlaws. He will be joining former Michigan players, Mikie Schlosser and Mike Hernandez, in the mile high city. Schlosser is entering his first full season as an Outlaw after being drafted last year with the 54th pick. Previously, Kyle Jackson (57th in 2016) and Brekan Kohlitz (44th in 2008) have been drafted. Jackson still remains in the league and will play on Boston Cannons this year after he finishes his NLL season with the Rochester Knighthawks.

The MLL season kicks off this weekend, but Young will probably not play his first game as an Outlaw until week 4 or week 5.

This is now three straight years of sending players to the MLL, and that streak will likely continue into the future with Heidt, Noseworthy, and Curran being seniors next season.

Men's Lacrosse falls to Ohio State

Michigan fell to Ohio State, 8-5, at Ohio Stadium tonight. The turnover bug really bit Michigan today, committing 13 turnovers. After dominating the first half at the faceoff x, Michigan couldn't seem to buy a faceoff win in the second half once Ohio State switched faceoff guys.

Michigan now falls to 7-5 on the year and 0-3 in Big Ten play and will fall out of the polls after a three week stint, the longest in program history. A game in Ann Arbor against Johns Hopkins is on tap for next Saturday. The season finale will be the following Saturday at Penn State. The Big Ten tournament in Ann Arbor is not much more than a dream at this point.

For those who want to watch some more lacrosse tomorrow:

#17 Navy at Army, 12:00 PM on CBS Sports Network

#5 Duke at #12 Virginia, 1:00 PM on espn3

#4 Johns Hopkins at #14 Penn State, 2:00 PM on ESPNU

#9 Cornell at #18 Lehigh, 2:30 PM on CBS Sports Network

North Carolina at #7 Syracuse, 4:00 PM on ESPNU

Lacrosse @ Ohio State now at 7PM tonight **on BTN**

Michigan lacrosse will play Ohio State tonight in Columbus at 7 PM, instead of 11 AM tomorrow.  Looks like the nasty weather that canceled Michigan's spring football game has also affected Ohio State's.  The lacrosse game will still air live on BTN tonight.

This is a big game for Michigan and I wanted to send that along if you were in the area and planning to go.  I'll have to do a quick preview because I'm running out of town now.

Ohio State is down this year and Michigan needs to be ready to pounce.  After reaching the championship game last season, Ohio State is floundering in 2018.  They're 5-6 and losers of 5 straight.  They even needed a Laettner-esque miracle to beat Jacksonville earlier in the season.

Michigan needs to win at least two of their remaining three games to have a chance to play  in the conference tourney in AA in a few weeks.

I gotta run so there's not much else to say.  Beat they ass on 3! 1-2-3...

Lacrosse Falls to #9 Rutgers, 16-8

UPDATE: Michigan got blown out against Rutgers today and that's all there is to say. It's not worth a recap. They should expunge it from their memory so they can kick Ohio State's ass next week before their spring game.  GO  BLUE!

-----

Michigan lacrosse has a big game today on the road against the ninth-ranked Scarlet Knights of Rutgers at noon on the U. Make sure to tune in or set your DVR, or if you're in the neighborhood in NJ, go down and check it out.

This is a crucial game for both squads as both are vying for their first Big Ten win on the year and need conference wins to keep their tournament dreams alive.  And Big Ten play has tripped up both teams the last few years. Michigan lost all of their conference games last year and ended up 8-6 while Rutgers went 2-3 in B1G play, fell out of the rankings and ultimately missed the NCAA tournament.

Rutgers is back again though and is getting more respect. They're 7-3 and can boast wins over #8 Syracuse (!) and #19 Robert Morris. They lost a close one to Hopkins last week but have also dropped games to not-great Army & Princeton teams.

Rutgers will be able to score and Michigan's defense will have to keep attackman Jules Heningburg in check. Heningburg is a 'midseason All-American' according to Inside Lacrosse and he has 29/22 on the year so far.  Michigan's defense may also have some nightmares about attackman Kieran Mullins who scored 8 goals against them last year.  The good news is that Michigan's D is much improved; its smarter and more disciplined so don't expect a repeat from last year.

Rutgers will play hard and has a lot on the line after missing the tournament two years in a row.  It's a winnable game for Michigan but Rutgers will be a tough out.  GO BLUE!

Lacrosse Saturday Open Thread: UMBC Did It Again

It's not until tomorrow until the men travel to Rutgers and the ladies to face off against Johns Hopkins, but plenty has happened since last Saturday and today will be a big day in college lacrosse nonetheless. The ladies played Notre Dame in South Bend on Wednesday, falling to the Irish, 14-8. That puts the ladies at 5-8 on the year. They are 1-2 in conference play going into the Johns Hopkins game tomorrow.

Elsewhere, the men's RPI took a small hit when Yale lost to Bucknell in overtime, 9-8, on Wednesday night. But on Friday, it recovered when the Upset Special UMBC Retrievers* defeated #1 Albany, 11-7. Villanova got to play "One Shining Moment" before their #7 Wildcats faced off against #4 Denver, but that was the only celebrating they did last night as Denver beat them, 22-6.

Today, Big Ten conference play continues and there's some ACC action and Patriot League play, too.

Ohio State at #5 Johns Hopkins, now on ESPNU (JHU leads 5-3)

#11 Loyola at #17 Lehigh, 1:00 PM, CBS Sports Network

Army at Boston University, 3:15 PM, CBS Sports Network

#6 Duke at #12 Notre Dame, 4:00 PM, ESPNU (Go Duke?)

Colgate at Navy, 5:30 PM, CBS Sports Network

#13 Virginia at North Carolina, 6:00 PM, espn3

Men's Lacrosse Still Ranked

If there's a restriction on threads to be solely about the game tonight, I apologize in advance, but men's lacrosse is ranked for the third time ever this week. After a loss to #2 Maryland Saturday, Michigan is ranked #18. A trip to #9 Rutgers in store this week. If this Michigan team has a tournament at-large chance, they will need to at least hang with the Scarlet Knights in a close game, if not get the win. The game is Sunday at noon on ESPNU.

Here is the top ten and other noteables:

1. Albany

2. Maryland (M lost to them)

3. Yale (M lost to them)

4. Denver

5. Johns Hopkins (M plays them April 21, noon, BTN Plus)

6. Duke

7. Villanova

8. Syracuse

9. Rutgers (M plays them Sunday, noon, ESPNU)

10. Cornell

12. Notre Dame (M beat them)

15. Penn State (M plays them April 28, 11 AM, BTN)

18. Michigan

Penn (21st, receiving votes, M lost to them)

Marquette (30th, receiving votes, M beat them)

Ohio State (not receiving votes, M plays them April 14, 11 AM, BTN)
