According to Bob McKenzie of TSN, Steven Stamkos will re-sign with the Tampa Bay Lightning. This comes as a bit of a surprise as the three favorites to sign him were Detroit, Buffalo, and Toronto. This comes as a bit of a blow to the Wings, who were favorites to sign the 26 year old all star.
(Sorry I cant embed tweets so can someone else embed McKenzie's?)
NHL Draft open thread.
Two incoming freshmen have already been drafted.
Will Lockwood was drafted in the 3rd, #64 by the Vancouver Canucks.
Jack LaFontaine, hopefully our starting goalie this year has been drafted in the 3rd round, 75th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes.
Luke Martin is 17 like Werenski was. He'll probably be a first rounder in next year's draft when he's eligible.
This somehow slipped through the cracks recently. I found this out this morning......oh my........
Are they trying to lose every year and continue their nosedive to hell?
We all thought it was hilarious back when they said they were gonna keep him.......but a contract extension into the 20s is essentially suicide. If they fire him, they're gonna have to pay a buyout. If they wait until it expires for him to leave, they will be near China they'll be in such a deep hole by then.
Looks like it is now official, there will be an NHL team in Las Vegas for the 2017-18 season. It has been a while (2000) since new expansion teams have been added, so it's interesting to read up on the logistics. Essentially, the new team gets an expansion draft to pick a player from other teams, but the established teams can protect certain players. Then they will also have picks in the normal draft.
The new team will join the pacific division (8th team), meaning the West now has 15 and the East has 16 teams.
Will miss Pavel but will always cherish the memories!
